With a history of more than 200 years, this festival has witnessed and accompanied the ups and downs of Nhon Ly land (now Quy Nhon Dong ward) from the early days of Truong Lang's formation in 1815, until it was officially held at Vung Nom (Xuong Ly lagoon) in 1839. After many restorations and reconstructions, especially after 2014, the Van Dam Xuong Ly Fishing Festival has been increasingly fully restored, becoming a typical cultural beauty of the old Binh Dinh province.

The festival is large-scale and closely related to the local fishing industry. Every year, the official festival takes place for three days, from January 9-11. Nowadays, the festival has been extended, with many folk activities and art performances such as Hat Boi, Bai Choi and folk cockfighting.

With its unique cultural values, the Van Dam Xuong Ly Fishing Festival was listed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Decision No. 3994/QD-BVHTTDL dated December 10, 2024.
