Village elder Dinh Hmunh has steadfast faith in the Party.

(GLO)- At nearly 70 years old, Mr. Dinh Hmunh (Dak Asel village, Son Lang commune, Kbang district, Gia Lai province) is still a "big tree" in the middle of the forest: quiet, steadfast, a spiritual support for villagers in all work.

The rustic stilt house located at the entrance of Dak Asel village is the home of Mr. Dinh Hmunh’s family. In the middle of the house, he solemnly placed the altar of Uncle Ho. On the wooden wall, Uncle Ho’s picture is always cleaned and hung neatly.

“Although Uncle Ho never set foot in the Central Highlands, we always feel very close to him. The more difficult it is, the more we miss him. The more we miss him, the more we have to live well and keep our oath to the Party,” Mr. Hmunh expressed.

Memories of the resistance years are still vivid in Mr. Hmunh's mind. In 1974, when the State mobilized contributions of materials to build Uncle Ho's Mausoleum, he and the people of Son Lang commune, regardless of danger, went deep into the forest to choose strong, straight wood trunks, like the hearts of the Bahnar people sent to the capital. "At night, the torchlight flickered like bright stars in the forest. People walking in the forest felt warm in their hearts, as if Uncle Ho was by their side," Mr. Hmunh recalled, his eyes shining.

Not only does village elder Hmunh keep Uncle Ho's image in his heart, he also lives his revolutionary ideals to the fullest. As a long-time party member, he has never been absent or late to any of the party cell's meetings. At village meetings, he always listens to and records the thoughts and aspirations of the villagers and gives suggestions and resolves practical difficulties.

When Mr. Dinh Van Quy was elected as Party Cell Secretary and Head of Dak Asel village, village elder Hmunh was the first to speak up in support. “If we have experience, we will share it, if we have strength, we will help, but the future of the village must be built by the young generation. Young people now know how to read and write, know how to use technology, and know how to take care of their people... That is a good thing,” Mr. Hmunh said confidently. It is not only trust but also the long-term vision associated with the reality of a village elder.

Mr. Quy said: The Dak Asel village Party cell has 26 party members. Mr. Hmunh is the spiritual support of the Party cell. He always accompanies, shares experiences, helps people understand and trust, so everything in the village is agreed upon by the villagers.

Dak Asel village used to be a revolutionary base, with many difficulties in life. Thanks to the persistent efforts of Mr. Hmunh and the village cadres, the people have boldly changed the crop structure, applied science and technology to production, raised cows for breeding, planted rice, coffee, passion fruit, pepper, macadamia... Up to now, the village has only 3 poor households and 7 near-poor households out of a total of 109 households.

Once one of the poorest households in the village, Dinh Van Luk's family lived off hired labor and had no land for production. Seeing this, Mr. Hmunh advised: "If you are poor, you have to work hard to improve yourself. When you work for hire, you have to appreciate the value of labor. If you have any money, save it and one day you will have a better life." Listening to the village elder, Mr. Luk and his wife always work hard. Up to now, his family has not only escaped poverty, has a solid house, but also bought land to grow 8 sao of coffee and 2 sao of rice.

Not only is he a “prisoner” in Party work, Mr. Hmunh is also a “fire keeper” of traditional culture. Thanks to his proposal, Dak Asel village has maintained a gong and xoang team for youth with 45 members. The team participates in performances during village and local festivals, contributing to preserving the source of Bahnar culture from being lost. The sound of gongs and xoang melodies not only evokes cultural values ​​but also nurtures national pride in the young generation, arousing the consciousness of inheriting identity.

In addition, Mr. Hmunh also encouraged villagers to build a community tourism model associated with traditional culture. From here, people have learned to keep the environment clean and communicate confidently. Village festivals are always bustling with the sound of gongs, folk songs, epics and young people acting as tour guides to welcome visitors from the city to visit and experience.

Mrs. Dinh Thi Toai shared: “I have been attached to this village for almost my whole life. Hearing the gong sounds during the festival makes me very happy. Thanks to Mr. Hmunh reminding, preserving, and then mobilizing his children and grandchildren, the beauty of the Bahnar people remains intact until now.”

Talking to reporters, Mr. Dinh Xuan Phiet - Party Secretary, Chairman of the People's Council of Son Lang commune - commented: "Despite his old age, Mr. Hmunh is always the one "standing in front" whenever the village needs support. Not only is he a prestigious person, he is also the embodiment of a class of revolutionaries in the Central Highlands who are loyal, steadfast, and devoted to the Party and the people."
