High vegetable prices, Hue farmers expect a big success in Tet

In the last days of the year, farmers in Thanh Trung village (Quang Thanh commune, Quang Dien district, Hue city) have been busy planting to supply green vegetables in time for the Tet At Ty holiday.

To provide a source of green vegetables that ensure quality for the Tet market this year, since the beginning of December 2024, farmers in Quang Thanh commune have taken advantage of sunny days to plow the land and plant lettuce, sweet cabbage, jute, etc. seeds in time to serve the Tet holiday.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoi (50 years old, residing in Thanh Trung village, Quang Thanh commune) said that to prepare for this year's Tet crop, her family planted about 500 square ^meters of vegetable fields.

Currently, all kinds of vegetables are growing well. It is expected that this year, during the Lunar New Year, Mrs. Thoi's family will supply the market with many types of vegetables of guaranteed quality.

"The recent heavy rains have almost wiped out all the vegetables in the village. My family has just planted a new crop to prepare for Tet sales. If the weather is favorable in the near future and the market price is as high as it is now, vegetable growers will have a successful season," said Ms. Thoi.

Ms. Le Thi Luom (54 years old, Tay Thanh village, Quang Thanh commune) said that her family currently has 2.2 sao of vegetable fields, earning about 70 - 80 million VND each year.

This year, Ms. Luom's family only focuses on growing bok choy and lettuce because these are vegetables with a short growing period of about 30 - 45 days, in time to supply the market during Tet.

According to Ms. Luom, the price of green vegetables is gradually increasing, on average 20-30% higher than last year's Tet holiday.

"My family started planting green vegetables for Tet around the end of November 2024. To help the vegetables grow well and ensure productivity, I focus on selecting seeds, preparing the soil, and using organic fertilizers.

I hope that in the near future, vegetables will have good prices so that my family can have a warm and full Tet" - Mrs. Luom shared.

Mr. Dao Phuoc Truong - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quang Dien Commune - said that currently the whole commune has 32.5 hectares of vegetable growing area with an average annual output of about 150 tons, giving an estimated average income of 650 - 700 million VND/ha/year.

Recently, the commune authorities have organized training courses to provide technical guidance to farmers on vegetable care and pest control. In particular, the Commune Farmers’ Association has also promoted the use of organic fertilizers for vegetables and limited use of pesticides.

"The price of green vegetables this year is higher than the same period last year. Although the rainy and flooded weather at the end of the year caused disadvantages for the people, farmers in the whole commune have actively planted and cared for vegetables, and so far most of them have grown well. With the current stable weather and market prices, it is promised that farmers will have a big win," said Mr. Truong.
