2026 Asian Women's Football Championship confirms 12 participating teams

Iran's women's team has won the final ticket to the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship held in Australia after winning the top spot in Group A, ending on the evening of July 19.

On the evening of July 19, the Iranian women's team defeated Jordan 2-1 in the final match of Group A of the Asian Women's Football Championship qualifiers. This victory helped the Iranian women's team have 9 points after 4 matches, leading Group A and winning a ticket to the final round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship. Iran has the same 9 points as Jordan but topped Group A thanks to a direct victory over their opponent.

The Iranian women's team is also the last team to win a ticket to the final round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship. Previously, after the qualifying round on the evening of July 5, the final round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship had determined 11 participating teams.

They are host Australia, China (the defending champions), South Korea, Japan, India, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Philippines, Bangladesh and North Korea.

Of the 11 teams that have qualified for the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup, only Bangladesh will be participating for the first time. This will be a historic tournament for Bangladesh women's football.

The 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup finals will take place in Australia from March 1-21 with 12 teams participating. The top six teams will qualify for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil (the next two teams will play in an inter-zone play-off).

The teams that reach the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup will also participate in the final qualifying round for the 2028 Olympics.
