Anti-school violence skit at Dien Hong Secondary and High School, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City
Family moral traditions have a profound and direct influence on children. Children spend more time with their families than at school, so the relationships between family members have a direct influence on them.
Especially in adolescence, children gradually form attitudes of commenting and evaluating the interests and relationships between members. When children live in a disciplined family that respects social values and ethical standards, this will have a positive impact on their lives and ethical behavior.
For children living in families that are not harmonious, have domestic violence, grandparents and parents who do not live up to their responsibilities and roles, and consider education to be the school's job, it will negatively affect the moral life of children. Modern families also have many changes compared to traditional families. Openness in the relationship between parents and children, respect for individual rights also have a significant impact on personality formation.
In addition to school and society, the family must play an important role in educating students. However, many parents ignore their responsibilities, leaving everything to the school and when their children do not meet their expectations, they turn to blame the teachers.
Female student who beat her friend was suspended from school.
Schools have changed a lot compared to the past. The explosion of information technology has made schools no longer the only place where students receive knowledge. Commercialism has more or less penetrated into schools, affecting the status of teachers. This has affected the respect for teachers, which is not as good as it used to be.
Meanwhile, society is a large environment surrounding people. At the age of personality formation, children's psychological development is quite strong but not yet complete, their attitudes and stance in life are not yet stable. Therefore, the influence of the social environment has a great impact on them.
All of the above factors are used to affirm that when students commit mistakes, such as recent school violence cases, students fighting and being suspended from school, the family and society must join hands with the school in educating this student and helping him or her change.
Article 45, Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDĐT of the Charter of Secondary Schools, High Schools and Multi-level General Schools clearly states the relationship between family , school and society in educating students. When students are suspended from school, the school should invite local authorities, specifically organizations such as the Youth Union, Women's Union... to notify and propose educational measures within a certain period of time and record the students' progress or create conditions for them to correct their mistakes.
Educating students about ethics and personality is the responsibility of family, school and society.
During the time when students are disciplined, they need to talk to them to realize where they are wrong. At the age of forming and developing their psychology, there are times when they do not realize that their actions and words are wrong, leading to school violence, student fights... like in the past. Therefore, it is very necessary for adults, especially parents and teachers, to talk and advise them to overcome psychological obstacles when exposed to the learning and training environment.
A positive, disciplined educational environment with uniformly implemented codes of conduct demonstrates respect and listens to positive opinions, preventing negative behaviors from occurring.
Students who fight are suspended from school, is that the best option?
Disciplining students is a challenge for both teachers and school discipline managers. In recent days, there has been much disagreement about the effectiveness and consequences of suspending students after fights. Some people believe that suspending students is not always an effective solution. Instead of reforming students, this method can make them feel dissatisfied and even lead to them leaving school altogether. Furthermore, it does not help students understand why they are being disciplined and how they can change their behavior.
The learning environment is where students develop knowledge, skills and values in life. In this process, disciplining students to ensure school rules are very important, but the goal of discipline is not only to handle violations, but also to help them understand, comprehend and change their behavior.
Instead of suspending students, we should have conversations with them. Listen to them and give them the opportunity to talk about the situation and why they have been violent, fighting, causing trouble, etc. Then, teachers should counsel them so they can understand the consequences of their behavior and how they can change.
By using constructive discipline methods, teachers can build a positive, happy learning environment that promotes the growth and inclusion of all students.
Discipline is an integral part of the learning environment, but it needs to be implemented consistently, humanely and in a way that achieves educational goals. We need to strike a balance between the use of disciplinary measures and the creation of a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
