Inclusive education for children in special circumstances

Over the years, the province has always paid attention to inclusive education for many children in special circumstances, such as autistic children, children with disabilities, children with speech delays, etc. Thereby helping them to study, be educated in life skills, eliminate inferiority complexes, and confidently integrate into the community.

The Social Work Center (Department of Health ) is currently implementing the work of detecting, assessing, and providing early intervention for children with developmental disorders, such as autism, speech delay, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, behavioral disorders, mild intellectual disability, etc. Mr. Truong Manh Hung, Director of the Center, said: The Center is currently responsible for screening, consulting, developing personalized intervention plans, and implementing direct intervention for children with developmental delays. We are trying to build a comprehensive, in-depth, and humane model so that children are not only treated, but also live in a positive environment, respected, and understood. The earlier the intervention, the higher the child's recovery ability.

The center is implementing regular screening and early assessment activities at the facility and coordinating with kindergartens, commune and ward health stations to detect abnormal signs of development in children aged 18 months and older. Notable manifestations include slow speech, lack of eye contact, lack of response when called by name, repetitive behavior, slow adaptation to new environments, and hyperactivity. After being screened, children will have their personal records built with development indicators such as language, behavior, movement, cognition, social emotions, etc.

Ms. Dinh Thi Huong Thao, an officer of the Consulting - Administrative Assistance Department (Provincial Social Work Center), said: From 2 to 5 years old is the golden period to support children, because this is the time to stimulate brain development, to be able to absorb and learn quickly. Therefore, parents and families need to pay attention to abnormalities and strange signs in children so that they can go to reputable facilities for timely intervention. Many children at a mild level, when intervened, will progress quickly, helping them learn and integrate with their peers quickly.

In recent times, inclusive educational facilities for children with autism, behavioral disorders, motor disorders, etc. have supported and helped many children return to normal life, studying and playing like their peers.

Huong Duong Center for Supporting Inclusive Education Development supports intervention and assessment of children's development.

In 2019, the Huong Duong Center for Supporting the Development of Inclusive Education (Mao Khe Ward) was established, making an important contribution to supporting children with disabilities to develop comprehensively through special education activities, early intervention with specialized therapies. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hue, Director of the Center, said: We have provided consulting support, accompanied parents in caring for, educating and orienting the future for their children; organized free screening for children with developmental disorders to promptly detect disabilities and provide early intervention. At the same time, we have trained and improved the capacity of teachers and staff in the field of special education and therapy for children with special needs.

In June 2025, the Center coordinated with the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans to organize a program to introduce a career guidance model for students with disabilities. With the support of teachers and volunteers, the students prepared their own vegetarian dishes. The Center is expanding the provision of vegetarian dishes to individuals and organizations in need. The model not only helps students practice life skills, but also creates a sustainable livelihood for them.

The goal of inclusive education for special children is to develop a comprehensive personality, create fairness for children to go to school and integrate into society. Therefore, this work really needs the attention of the whole society, family, and school so that children can overcome their inferiority complex, strive to study, and have a better life.
