Spreading green values

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and Head of the Youth Union and Youth Affairs Committee Thi Phuong Hong shared: “The new highlight in 2025 is the implementation of the model “One Green Sunday every month”. No longer a scattered activity, the movement is held regularly and in depth, creating opportunities for each locality to express creativity, proactively choosing appropriate and diverse topics with reality such as “Sunday without plastic waste”, “Blooming flower route”, “Blooming electric poles”, “Exchange trash for gifts - spread love”… Each launch is a new journey, inspiring youth and the community. In 2025, 9 “Green Sundays” will be organized simultaneously in 100% of communes, wards and special zones, demonstrating the determination of An Giang youth in protecting the environment, contributing to building the locality increasingly green - clean - beautiful.

According to Ms. Thi Phuong Hong, the movement does not stop at planting trees or collecting garbage, but also includes creative projects such as "Youth Flower Road", "Nursery", "House Recycled from Tires"... Along with that, green values are strongly spread through photo contests "My Green Day" and green action videos on social networks. In particular, the model "Exchange trash for gifts" or "Exchange plastic bottles for school supplies" is both meaningful and practical, attracting the participation of a large number of students and people. Each locality is assigned the task of developing its own plan, flexibly responding to actual conditions but still ensuring 3 main groups of content: Green action, green construction, green values.

“Not stopping at the slogan, “Green Sunday” in 2025 aims at specific, feasible but meaningful targets such as planting 50,000 new trees across the province; building 100 youth flower roads, 30 “Blooming Electric Poles” models, 50 “Exchange Trash for Gifts” points. Volunteers will collect more than 150 tons of waste at polluted spots, residential areas, river banks, canal banks, contributing to cleaning the living environment. These targets not only have a competitive meaning but also a specific motivation, integrated into the program of building new rural areas, sustainable development of the whole province, helping each locality to proactively participate, avoid formalities, improve the quality of each activity”, Ms. Thi Phuong Hong shared more.

Practicality from small things

An Giang Youth is always proactive in creating practical activities such as socializing resources, connecting businesses, philanthropists, religious organizations to mobilize trees, trash cans, supplies... At the same time, union members, youth, women's unions, students, border guards, militia and self-defense forces contribute to every road and every street corner.

At universities and colleges in the province, the "Green Sunday" movement is maintained regularly with many diverse activities: New Year activities, Youth Month, Green Summer... "The Youth Union of An Giang University organizes large-scale activities attracting up to 1,500 students to participate. Thanks to the connection between the movement and training points, programs to exchange trash for gifts, coordination with businesses, social organizations..., many students have proactively contributed ideas, created new models, turning activities into useful habits", said Secretary of the Youth Union of An Giang University Tran Trung Quoc.

The Youth Union branches also created many projects such as "Trash sorting bins" and "Student gardens", helping students directly care for, maintain and protect the environment at school. Social networks, school websites, bulletin boards, and Youth Union and Association fanpages became effective communication channels, bringing the message of "Green Sunday" to every young person. Cultural activities, "green markets", exchanging plastic bottles for school supplies, etc. created a joyful and cohesive atmosphere, helping to protect the environment, a core component of student life.

The practical experiences left a deep impression on the participants. Student Vo Quoc Duy (2nd year, Faculty of Pedagogy) shared: “I am really impressed with your team spirit. Everyone is enthusiastic, proactive, and supportive of each other. After participating, I am more aware of the impact of each small action on the environment. I will maintain the habit of saving electricity and water, limiting the use of plastic bags, sorting garbage, and prioritizing environmentally friendly products.”

Student Nguyen Hoang Vien (3rd year, Faculty of Pedagogy) confided: "Before, I thought only big actions could create change, but when I collected trash and planted trees with my friends, I realized that small, simple things can create positive impacts if done regularly and with a sincere heart."

“From cleaning up a landfill, planting a row of trees, painting a wall, to encouraging people not to litter, every small action carries a green message, contributing to building a civilized, clean, beautiful, and humane lifestyle. That is also the message “Green Sunday” brings to society,” Ms. Thi Phuong Hong emphasized.
