Hanoi bans gasoline vehicles: Golden location to build charging stations

To meet the growing demand for electric vehicles and support the transportation transition roadmap, Hanoi has surveyed four "golden" locations with the potential to become large-scale charging stations and parking lots:

1. Tran Khat Chan route (Bach Mai - Lac Nghiep section):

The sidewalk and vacant land area of more than 500m along this route is being studied to be converted into a parking lot combined with a charging station. Currently, this area is managed by the Hanoi Parking Lot Exploitation Company, promising to optimize the existing space to serve the people.

2. Xa Dan – Giai Phong intersection (in front of Vietnam National Shipping Lines):

With a large area, this location has the ability to park hundreds of vehicles and install many charging stations. This is considered the largest parking lot among the surveyed locations, and can also serve as a place for people to park their gasoline motorbikes before entering the inner city area.

3. Vacant land from 621 – 768 De La Thanh:

Currently, the parking lot is qualified to install charging stations/posts, serving both cars and motorbikes. The spacious area here allows to meet the needs of parking and charging at the same time.

4. De La Thanh – Kim Ma – Cau Giay intersection (near the Russian Embassy):

Located near office buildings, schools, hospitals and especially the elevated railway station - a major passenger transit area. This location has been licensed as a parking lot and is expected to add a charging station to serve the future vehicle conversion needs, leading the green mobility trend.

According to statistics, the Ring Road 1 area currently has nearly 450,000 motorbikes, accounting for more than 6% of the total number of motorbikes in the city. Hanoi is promoting the policy of switching to green vehicles, and building a network of charging stations early is considered a key factor.

This infrastructure not only helps people adapt to the new policy of banning gasoline vehicles but also encourages the use of electric vehicles, contributing to reducing air pollution and noise in inner-city areas.
