Hanoi congratulates the 2024 Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympic team

2024 is the 17th year that the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) is held. With the trust of the Ministry of Education and Training , the Hanoi student delegation representing Vietnam participating in the competition brought back excellent results when 100% of the members won medals (2 Silver medals, 3 Bronze medals).

Specifically, the 2 students who won Silver Medals were Nguyen Ba Linh and Nguyen Xuan Hoang; the 3 students who won Bronze Medals were Nguyen Thi Thu Minh, Luu Quang Minh and Dam Ngoc Bao Lam; all 5 students came from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Congratulating the team's achievements at the 2024 IOAA competition, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong awarded certificates of merit to 8 members (including 3 staff, teachers and 5 students); at the same time, emphasizing: with this excellent result, the capital's student team has brought glory to the country and to Hanoi. Hope that the students will continue to strive and make efforts in their learning journey; consider this a valuable asset on the path to establishing a career in the future.

Sharing about the days when the team participated in the competition, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Nguyen Quang Tuan, Head of the delegation, said: This year's competition had nearly 300 countries and territories participating, including many teams with strengths in Astronomy and Astrophysics such as: USA, China, Iran... Although the time for the Hanoi students' team to gather was only about 2 months, they all had a good sense of compliance, always tried, and promoted their full potential; this made Vietnam one of the very few teams with 100% of members winning medals.

The Hanoi delegation representing Vietnam to participate in the IOAA competition in 2024 is led by Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Nguyen Quang Tuan.

“In August 2025, the 18th IOAA exam will be held in India. Building on the results achieved this year and previous years, we will ask for permission to develop a plan to select teams from high schools in the city to select the best students who are passionate about this subject and will start training early to achieve better results,” said Nguyen Quang Tuan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
