In this situation, Hanoi Drainage Company has deployed forces at key locations. Key pumping stations such as Yen So, Cau Buu, Dong Bong 1, Dong Bong 2, Co Nhue, Da Sy are operating at full capacity. The sluice gates are operating according to procedures, ensuring traffic safety in low-lying areas.
The company also continued to be on duty, solving drainage problems, and collecting garbage at the collection stations. The floodgates of regulating lakes such as Thien Quang, Bay Mau, and Dong Da lakes were opened. As of 8:00 a.m. on August 27, the forces continued to be on duty, operating the main pumping station to lower the water level and clear the flow.
Mobilize 100% of flood prevention forces
According to Mr. Trinh Ngoc Son, Deputy General Director of Hanoi Drainage Company, basically the flooding spots have been handled. The company has proactively implemented many plans as soon as the forecast of storm No. 5 was issued: lowering the water level on the river system and regulating lakes; maintaining and repairing all pumping stations; arranging mobile equipment to quickly handle local flooding black spots. During storm No. 5, 100% of the personnel, equipment and vehicles were mobilized to promptly handle the situation.
Mr. Trinh Ngoc Son added that the design capacity of the drainage system in the To Lich river basin is 310mm/2 days. However, after 2 days of rain, the rainfall measured in the Hai Ba Trung area reached 594mm, exceeding the design capacity. By 2:00 p.m. yesterday, the flooding had been basically resolved.

Mr. Trinh Ngoc Son recommends that people join hands with the city by not littering on the streets, especially not letting garbage flow down manholes, blocking the drainage system. Businesses need to cover manholes to avoid stagnation during heavy rains. |
Some flooded areas in other basins such as the left bank of Nhue River (Vo Chi Cong), the right bank of Nhue River (Nguyen Xien, Thang Long Avenue) are still flooded due to the water level of Nhue River. Long Bien area is still partially flooded due to the incomplete investment in the drainage system. The old inner city streets in Ba Dinh, where parades and marches are held, have been guaranteed not to be flooded.
To ensure drainage for the September 2nd holiday, the Company has developed a specific plan and communicated it to all staff. 100% of the staff will be on duty until September 2nd. Vehicles and equipment are regularly inspected to ensure good operation. Water levels in rivers and lakes have been lowered. The Company also coordinates with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to promptly drain water around the perimeter, ensuring rapid drainage of water in the inner city. In particular, there are separate plans for the routes that the parade and marching groups pass through.
The company also works closely with the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the Traffic Police Department - Hanoi City Police to remotely divert traffic on roads that are likely to be flooded. People are advised to limit travel through this area. The company will immediately isolate the area and notify promptly when the route is cleared. In addition, flooded areas are updated and made public in real time via the HSDC Maps application.
