Up to this point, although the water on the rivers has receded slowly, thousands of households in Ha Tinh province are still flooded. The flooded areas are mainly communes outside the La Giang dike such as Duc Quang, Duc Minh, some villages in Bac Hong Linh ward and Nghi Xuan commune.
There are currently 16 schools in the area that are still flooded. They are expected to return to normal classes early next week. With the motto "clean up as soon as the water recedes", schools in the flooded areas are urgently cleaning up to welcome students back to school soon.
In Duc Minh commune, the storm had just passed, many schools had not yet been cleaned up, and the flood came again. Duc Minh commune has 7 flooded schools, including: 3 kindergartens, 3 primary schools and 1 secondary school. Of these, 4 schools had floodwaters flowing into the classrooms, causing serious flooding. 3 other schools had deep flooding in the yard, 1 school had its roof completely blown off, 1 school had its gate collapsed. Most of the schools had damaged roofs. Up to now, about 2,000 students in the commune have not been able to return to school.
At Tung Chau Primary School in Duc Minh Commune, the water was about 60 cm deep. The school mobilized all teachers to quickly move desks, chairs, and teaching equipment to the second floor. However, because the water rose so quickly, some furniture that could not be transported in time was submerged in water.
At the same time, at Tung Chau Kindergarten, after the storm, the school's roof was blown off and the facilities were severely damaged by floodwaters.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, Principal of Tung Chau Kindergarten, said that the sunny weekend brought about a time when the water level had dropped, and the school mobilized teachers with the help of local authorities and mass organizations to join hands in cleaning up.
At Kim Hoa Kindergarten, flood recovery work is also being urgently deployed. Since October 3, when the water showed signs of receding, the school's teachers and the commune's youth union have begun cleaning up. Ms. Tran Thi My Binh, Principal of Kim Hoa Kindergarten, said that there is now clean water to clean up, teachers have to use flood water to wash tables and chairs and clean the school. The school hopes the water will recede quickly in time to welcome students back early next week.
To promptly help people overcome the consequences of flooding after storm No. 10, promoting the spirit of youth, thousands of youth union members participated in cleaning up after the flood.
Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union Nguyen Ny Huong shared that the Youth Union at all levels has established a provincial mobile team with 200 youth union members, along with 69 commune-level teams, and deployed more than 1,000 activities to support overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, with the participation of more than 10,000 union members and youth. The activities focused on cleaning schools, repairing houses, environmental sanitation, rescue and support for people in flooded areas.
After storm No. 10, Ha Tinh youths quickly took action to promptly support people in affected areas. In addition to supporting working days, the Standing Committee of Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union mobilized 500 million VND to give to 62 households in difficult circumstances in communes damaged by the storm; supported 100 million VND to people in Duc Minh and Nghi Xuan communes who were isolated by floods and more than 1 ton of necessities to Duc Quang commune; at the same time, mobilized and presented 300 gifts and 50 cartons of milk to encourage children in flooded areas on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival.
