The US House of Representatives still has no speaker because of failed vote.

Congressman Jim Jordan fails in his first attempt to sit in the chair of Speaker of the US House of Representatives

In the first round of voting, 20 Republican congressmen abstained from voting for Jim Jordan, while 200 congressmen of the same party supported this candidate for the position of Speaker of the US House of Representatives. Mr. Jordan is currently Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, according to Reuters.

Thus, Mr. Jordan failed to mobilize the 217 votes needed to become Speaker of the US House of Representatives after his predecessor, McCarthy, was dismissed in a historic vote on October 3.

Mr Jordan received fewer votes than Democratic congressman Hakeem Jeffries, who received 212 votes, meaning all Democrats in the US House of Representatives supported him.

Speaking to reporters after the vote, Mr. Jordan initially said the Republican Party would hold another vote later that evening. However, that plan was broken as the opposition increased pressure on him.

Instead, the US House of Representatives will return to session again at 11 a.m. on October 18 (local time) in an effort to continue choosing a leader.

In the current context, any Republican candidate for Speaker of the US House of Representatives cannot lose 4 votes of support.

CBS quoted Florida Congressman Carlos Gimenez as saying he would stick with his original choice, McCarthy, for any upcoming vote on the position of Speaker of the House.

"I want a conservative (but moderate) Republican to be the speaker," Mr. Gimenez said, adding that the far-right is "full of lies."
