Hundreds of tons of lobsters are unsold due to the 'blockage' of the Chinese market.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Khanh Hoa , from August 2023 to now, the export of lobster to China has been blocked because China has amended the Law on Wildlife Protection and lobster is on this list.

Therefore, the consumption of lobsters in Van Phong Bay (with 12,296 cages and a yield of 468 tons) encountered many difficulties. There were no traders to buy, and the price of lobsters decreased significantly compared to before.

Mr. Vo Van Thai, Director of Van Phong Aquaculture - Tourism Cooperative with 32 members, said that the Cooperative has nearly 100 tons of lobster meat that cannot be exported due to lack of documents, which makes it difficult for members to pay for their investments.

"We propose that relevant units work with China to complete paperwork and procedures to be able to export lobsters as soon as possible," Mr. Thai suggested.

Lobster farmers in Van Phong Bay (Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa) are worried because lobsters cannot be exported to China.

Mr. Le Ba Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that in order for lobsters to enter the Chinese market, they need to ensure requirements such as the national food safety management system being assessed and recognized as equivalent by the General Administration of Customs of China. Exported products are on the list recognized by China (128 species/product types and 48 species of live aquatic animals).

In addition, the farming facilities are inspected by local aquaculture/veterinary management agencies, certified for food safety conditions, veterinary hygiene conditions, and are given codes, and samples are taken to monitor diseases during the farming process. Export shipments are granted certificates; a daily list of certificates is sent to Chinese Customs for comparison...

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien suggested that while waiting for China to provide information and new registration forms, the Department of Fisheries should coordinate with localities to organize guidance and direct organizations and individuals participating in the lobster value chain to strictly implement the provisions of the 2017 Fisheries Law.
