On the afternoon of July 27, the gymnasium at Central Hatyai Shopping Center witnessed the spectacular comeback of the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team, defeating the host country 2-1 to win the gold medal at the world championship.

The Thai team with striker Ratsamee Thongsod received enthusiastic cheers from the home crowd and started strongly and won set 1 with a score of 15 - 12.

However, the reasonable adjustments of the coaching staff headed by coach Tran Thi Vui helped the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team gradually regain control of the game, continuously scoring points from the strikes of female striker Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, winning the next two sets with scores of 15-8 and 15-7 to win 2-1 overall.

Tran Thi Ngoc Yen shared: "This was a very tense match. The Thai team always plays very strongly, especially with the enthusiastic cheers of the home crowd. This was the most tense match since the beginning of the tournament. Thailand changed their playing tactics but we won in the end."

A sweet victory for Ngoc Yen and her teammates, helping the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team get revenge after their defeat in the final of the 2024 World Championship. This is also the third time the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team has won a gold medal at the 4-a-side World Championship.

Even more impressively, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team had their second consecutive victory over rival Thailand, after defeating their opponents 2-1 at the World Cup in India earlier this year.

The Thai team also changed their main server. The previous main server only served 1-2 balls in this match, while the new server's shot put was lighter so we were able to catch all of them.

The final was very tense and we had moments when our opponents caught our attacks. But the management, the coach and the team encouraged everyone to play freely.

This victory continues the successful streak of Vietnamese women's sepak takraw, with a series of victories against rivals Thailand and Indonesia, helping to capture all championship titles in tournaments from the region, continent and the world - including the gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games and the 2022 ASIAD.

Ngoc Yen shared: "This victory is very meaningful, helping everyone confidently move towards the goal of successfully defending the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year in Thailand and the ASIAD in early 2026 in Japan.
