Nguyen Thi Huong is the golden girl of the sports world and won a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics. She is also the first Vietnamese athlete to officially win a place to compete at an Olympic Games for canoeing. She is also one of the two athletes who received the most gold medals at the 31st SEA Games.

2024 is a historic milestone when Nguyen Thi Huong won the silver medal at the Asian Championship. At the Asian Youth Rowing Championship, the girl born in 2001 had excellently won the gold medal and silver medal. At the VTV Awards - VTV Impression 2024 ceremony held in Hanoi on January 1, 2025. Nguyen Thi Huong was honored in the category of Impressive Young Face in the field of Sports. She also won the Young Athlete of the Year award at the Victory Cup 2024.

Nguyen Thi Huong won a ticket to the 2024 Olympics

On January 1, 2025, Nguyen Thi Huong wrote a letter asking to stop practicing in Vinh Phuc . The content of the letter, as Thanh Nien posted the following content: “I started training and became an athlete in rowing in Vinh Phuc province in August 2016. Over the past 9 years, I have constantly strived, overcome all difficulties and hardships, worked hard to practice and contributed to Vinh Phuc province's sports to win many noble medals at international and domestic tournaments, bringing glory to the Fatherland Vietnam as well as Vinh Phuc province. In particular, I was honored to win an official ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. However, in 3 years (from 2022 to 2024), I have not received any medal bonuses from domestic tournaments and nutritional support for 2024. Now I am old and due to family circumstances, I write this application to request a leave of absence from training as an athlete in rowing in Vinh Phuc province. I respectfully request the Board of Directors of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Phuc province and the Board of Directors of the Sports Training and Competition Center of Vinh Phuc province to create favorable conditions for me. I request that you be allowed to stop practicing from January 1, 2025 according to the wishes of your family and yourself."

Which important tournament will Nguyen Thi Huong compete in 2025?

In order not to affect the training of a talented athlete like Nguyen Thi Huong, the Vietnam Rowing Federation immediately took a positive action. The Federation sent a document to Vinh Phuc requesting to accept Nguyen Thi Huong, following the correct administrative procedures.

Even if Nguyen Thi Huong's former governing body does not respond in writing and the two sides do not have any discussions regarding this acceptance, the Vietnam Sailing Federation will officially include Huong in the federation's membership list. If she competes in domestic tournaments, she will wear the Vietnam Sailing Federation's jersey. Currently, Nguyen Thi Huong is still training hard in Thuy Nguyen (Hai Phong) and her daily diet will be taken care of by the federation. In 2025, Nguyen Thi Huong will participate in two particularly important tournaments: the Asian Sailing Championship in China in April (she has a chance to compete for a medal) and the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in December (with the expectation of winning a gold medal).
