This year, the benchmark scores of all majors at Hanoi National University of Education have increased compared to last year. Notably, there are 3 majors with benchmark scores above 29, including: Literature Pedagogy, History Pedagogy; Geography Pedagogy.

Of which, the two majors Literature Pedagogy and History Pedagogy achieved 29.3 points; 0.88 points higher than the highest standard score of last year (History Pedagogy - 28.42 points).

For these majors, on average, each subject gets 9.7 points, but candidates still fail, if there are no bonus or incentive points.

Music Pedagogy (this year's benchmark score is 24.05) has the strongest increase in benchmark scores, 5.55 and 4.5 points respectively for each combination (last year's benchmark score was 18.5-19.55 depending on the combination).

Biology Pedagogy also has a standard score increase of 3.89 points in the D08 group and 1.81 points in the B00 group...

Regarding the issue of some majors of the University of Education and other schools where candidates still failed even though they got a total score of 29, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Son, Principal of Hanoi University of Education, said: “If we compare the standard scores of different years, it seems too high. However, if we look at university admissions as a top-down selection process, when there are many people with scores in the top, those in the bottom naturally lose their chance. That is the rule of selection.”

Mr. Son said that from the parents' perspective, it is understandable to be concerned when their children fail the exam with more than 9.7 points/subject. "Candidates with such high scores, in case they do not pass the most competitive major/preference, will also be admitted to other majors with lower competition, because now they can register for many preferences.

I think this is a very normal thing in life. Because we are not always the only one who is good, around us there may be other people who are better and we have to accept that," said Mr. Son.

According to Mr. Son, in general, the admission scores for all majors in Pedagogical schools this year have all increased.

Explaining the increase, Mr. Son said there are many reasons. One of them is the State's policies on tuition subsidy and living expenses for students studying pedagogy. "This attracts an increasing number of students. This year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the number of registrations for the Pedagogy major has skyrocketed. Thus, when the quota is limited, the number of registrations increases so much that only candidates with the top scores can enter. I think that is also a positive sign," Mr. Son said.

According to Mr. Son, Hanoi National University of Education has other unique points. That is, there are about 300 national excellent students registered for direct admission. "These cases are of course admitted directly to the school. This makes the competition for the remaining quotas more difficult," Mr. Son said.

Mr. Son added that currently, the quota for teacher training of Pedagogical schools is allocated and assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training. "The Ministry of Education and Training assigns quotas depending on the local orders. That is, based on the local orders, the Ministry of Education and Training assigns them to Pedagogical schools."

The quotas for most majors at Hanoi National University of Education this year have mostly decreased compared to last year.

Mr. Son said that, from this "very harsh" reality, candidates in the following years, if they want to take the entrance exam to Pedagogical schools, need to pay close attention to the policy adjustments of the Ministry of Education and Training and the schools.

“The advice for 12th grade students this year is to closely monitor the adjustment trends of schools,” said Mr. Son.

Hanoi National University of Education has started thinking about enrollment in 2025 and will certainly have certain adjustments.

“Because according to the new general education program in 2018, the admission combinations may have to be different. We will have to calculate the admission methods for next year and the combinations for each major,” said Mr. Son.
