(Dan Tri) - England coach Gareth Southgate announced that he wants to change English football history and complete his journey at Euro 2024 by winning until the last match.
England will face the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-finals, taking place at 2:00 a.m. tomorrow (July 11) at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund (Germany). Before the match with the Netherlands, England coach Southgate said: "Step by step, the England team has overcome challenges. Now, we want to break through to new milestones." This upcoming match against the Netherlands is our chance to do that," added coach Gareth Southgate. The last two times England have been in the World Cup and Euro finals, the matches were both held in England. In 1966, England reached the final (and then won) in the tournament they played on home soil. And in the Euro 2020 final (England lost to Italy), the tournament three years ago (Euro 2020 is actually played in 2021) had many co-host countries, but the final still took place at Wembley Stadium in London (England). In addition to wanting to play the final for the first time outside the land of fog, the England team also completely changed their penalty shootout record. In the quarter-final match against Switzerland, the England players successfully kicked all 5 of their kicks, defeating their opponents. This is something that has never happened to the England team in major tournaments. Coach Gareth Southgate shared: "We do not want to let previous failures haunt us. The England team wants to change history. My players see that as motivation to move forward." "It's true that many years ago, we were always worried every time we had to take a penalty shootout, but now the team's thinking is different. My players go into the field with the mindset that they can achieve what they want," Coach Gareth Southgate confidently declared.
