Quang Ninh Province Spring Newspaper Festival: Full of Spring colors, full of affection

Having traveled abroad and welcomed many international press delegations to Vietnam, I learned that nowhere else has the organization of the Spring Press Festival like in our country. Perhaps, making Tet newspapers and organizing the Spring Press Festival are unique products of the Vietnamese revolutionary press. These days, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association is urgently preparing for the province's Giap Thin Spring Press Festival and participating in the 2024 National Press Festival with great enthusiasm.

Just like in other localities, the Spring Press Festival in Quang Ninh Mining Region is always a special spiritual dish, indispensable every time Tet comes, spring returns. Notably, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association is one of the Journalists Associations that organized the Spring Press Festival very early. Ms. Nguyen Thu Hien - Deputy Office of the Provincial Journalists Association recalled: The Standing Office of the Provincial Journalists Association was established at the end of 1997 and moved to its own headquarters (previously, the Association Office was located in the headquarters of Quang Ninh Newspaper). Right on the occasion of Tet that year, the Association started to organize the Spring Press Festival. The Quang Ninh Spring Press Festival was first held at the Provincial Library.

In recent years, the Quang Ninh Spring Press Festival has been held at two locations, one in Ha Long City - the capital of the province, the second location is held in rotation in the remaining localities of the province. This year, with the attention of the leaders, the Quang Ninh Journalists Association will preside over and coordinate the organization of the Spring Press Festival in 13/13 districts, towns and cities of the province.

To organize the Spring Press Festival in Ha Long, every year, our Provincial Journalists Association coordinates with the Provincial Department of Culture and Sports , directly the Quang Ninh Library and Museum. Although it only lasts for about a week to half a month, the units have to prepare very early. The work is divided quite detailedly, meticulously and with smooth coordination. The Journalists Association builds a plan to edit the Spring edition of the Association, and encourages members and journalists to create unique press works for the Tet newspaper.

To have more publications to serve the people, the Association has written to request press agencies nationwide to exchange and support Tet press publications. The resident journalist association has assigned its members and resident reporters to contribute Tet newspapers and magazines of their agencies to diversify the publications displayed at the Central press area, ministerial and sectoral press at the Spring Press Fair. And in recent years, to proactively purchase the number of Spring press publications, the Provincial Journalists Association has also sought out large newsstands in Hanoi to buy more. And the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association is always proud to have mobilized a relatively full range of Tet newspapers and magazines to make the display booths full and rich.

At the Spring Press Fairs, along with Tet press, the Provincial Journalists Association also displays typical images that took place in the past year in the locality according to the themes. To have a clear theme, we organize for members to participate in voting for 10 typical events of the province every year. This work is simple but very meaningful, creating a lively atmosphere among reporters and journalist members.

Through that, the Provincial Journalists Association has more rich sources of photo materials to organize the annual Photo Exhibition on the province's outstanding achievements within the framework of the Spring Press Festival. Not only that, for nearly ten years now, we have collected documents and artifacts, which are equipment and means of work of journalists through generations in the mining area. Displaying these documents and artifacts at the Spring Press Festival has contributed to educating the tradition for young generations of journalists and also to help the press public understand more about the work of journalists.

Having joined the Provincial Journalists Association since the first Spring Press Festival, the staff of the Provincial Library have been very enthusiastic and responsible in mobilizing more sources of spring newspapers, books and publications on the topic of Tet, celebrating the Party and celebrating Spring. And without the scientific and artistic presentation of the staff of the Provincial Library, the Spring Press Festival would certainly lack appeal to the public.

In recent years, Quang Ninh Museum has also played an important role in making the province's Spring Newspaper Festivals more diverse and attractive. Visitors to the Spring Newspaper Festival can check in and take photos in old Vietnamese houses with poles, firecrackers, and Tet kitchens. Folk games such as blind man's bluff, Xam singing, calligraphy, and Chung cake wrapping experience areas also attract a large number of people.

Associated with social and volunteer activities

Along with displaying Tet newspapers, in recent years, the Provincial Journalists Association has also paid great attention to social and charitable activities in the area where the Association organizes the Spring Newspaper Festival. That is when organizing the Spring Newspaper Festival on the border, it is associated with cultural and football exchanges with border guards and awarding scholarships to students in mountainous areas. Although the pre-Tet period is busy with many tasks, when the Provincial Journalists Association raises the issue of coordinating the organization of the Spring Newspaper Festival, every locality is very excited to register to participate.

The same goes for journalists, resident reporters, in addition to contributing to newspapers and postponing Tet holidays, also mobilize additional funds from donors to join the Provincial Journalists Association in giving Tet gifts and scholarships to poor students who have overcome difficulties. Some journalists even used their journalism award money to give scholarships to students at the Spring Newspaper Festival.

Thanks to the active participation of journalist members, every year the Provincial Journalists Association mobilizes and collects dozens to hundreds of Tet gifts to give to policy beneficiaries and those in difficult circumstances. In the 2021 Tet holiday, 1,000 test kits were donated to hemodialysis patients in Ha Long and Cam Pha; tens of thousands of masks and Tet gifts were donated to people in disadvantaged areas and poor patients in hospitals. Last Tet holiday, at the request of the leaders of Ba Che mountainous district, the Provincial Journalists Association mobilized 200 million VND to build a solar-powered lamp project to give to 3 remote villages in Thanh Son commune, a disadvantaged commune of the district.

Every year, along with the Spring Newspaper Festival in the provincial capital, the Spring Newspaper Festival is held in rotation in other districts, towns and cities in the province, which is also an attractive cultural product for the local people. After Tet, the spring newspaper publications are classified by the Provincial Journalists Association and delivered to military units and cultural houses in border and island communes in the province.

Unlike previous years, this spring, the Quang Ninh Journalists Association will preside over and coordinate the organization of the Spring Press Festival in 13/13 districts, towns and cities of the province. The workload has therefore increased significantly. However, in order to thoroughly grasp the viewpoint of the provincial leaders that Tet must serve the people, the Provincial Journalists Association is urgently carrying out the work. That is, making a document requesting press agencies and Journalists Association organizations to exchange Tet press publications. Editing and publishing the Spring special issue of the Association and encouraging members at press agencies to well implement the newspaper plan and Tet program to have outstanding publications and programs.

In addition, the Association also ordered press agencies to increase the number of Tet newspapers to ensure that 13/13 Spring Press Festival locations in the province have newspapers from central and local press agencies. The Association is also organizing for members to create press photos to have a good source of photos for the exhibition "Quang Ninh - Outstanding Images of 2023". It is also necessary to mobilize more resources to organize social and charitable activities...

Along with organizing the Spring Press Festival this year, the Provincial Journalists Association has also proactively prepared to participate in the National Press Festival held in Ho Chi Minh City. All the officials and members of the journalist association in Quang Ninh are eagerly waiting for the day to depart, to bring the New Year newspaper of the Mining Region to the city named after Uncle Ho to exchange and discuss professional skills; to promote the OCOP products of their locality to colleagues across the country and the press public in the South.
