Annual talks in 2023 between the Border Guard Command of Quang Tri province and the Security Department of Savannakhet and Salavan provinces

This afternoon, December 19, in Dong Ha City, the Border Guard Command of Quang Tri Province and the Security Services of Savannakhet and Salavan Provinces, Lao People's Democratic Republic held the annual meeting in 2023.

In the spirit of solidarity and special friendship, the two sides informed each other about the situation on both sides of the border; results of coordination in border management and protection; control of entry and exit; import and export; fight against crime; propaganda work, twinning, and meetings and exchanges in recent times.

Accordingly, the Quang Tri Border Guard and the Security Departments of Savannakhet and Salavan provinces have effectively maintained coordination and information exchange to serve the task of managing and protecting the border and border gates.

The two sides have provided each other with more than 1,000 valuable sources of information to serve the task of managing and protecting the border and border gates, and fighting against crimes related to both sides of the border, contributing to ensuring security and order in the border area.

The Quang Tri Border Guard Command and the Savannakhet Provincial Security Department advised the border working delegation of the two provinces to work with the border expert delegation of the two countries Vietnam - Laos on opening the A Roong (Vietnam) - Xa Dun (Laos) crossing; creating favorable conditions for traffic through the Ta Rung (Vietnam) - La Co (Laos) sub-border gate.

The Quang Tri Border Guard Command and the Salavan Provincial Security Department have coordinated to survey the infrastructure to serve the Vietnam - Laos National Border Steering Committee to upgrade the pair of secondary border gates Coc (Vietnam) - A Xoc (Laos) into main border gates in the 2020-2030 period.

Leaders of both sides have directed the Border Guard stations (Vietnam) and the police force (Laos) to maintain and effectively implement the signed twinning regulations. Advise local Party committees and authorities at all levels to maintain and effectively implement the twinning model of residential clusters on both sides of the border and the mass movement to participate in self-management of border lines, border markers, and the fight against crime.

The two sides have coordinated to step up propaganda work and mobilize people on both sides of the border to strictly comply with each country's laws and regulations on border areas; and to thoroughly resolve illegal migration, illegal marriages across the border, and encroachment and settlement activities.

In addition, the Quang Tri Border Guard Command has directed the Border Guard stations to coordinate with the Security Service stations of Salavan and Savannakhet provinces to effectively implement the program "Helping children go to school", helping 9 Lao students with especially difficult circumstances to go to school.

At the meeting, the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command and the Security Services of Savannakhet and Salavan provinces (Laos) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in 2023.

Accordingly, in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to closely and in-depth coordinate in the work of grasping, exchanging information, situations and effectively combating all types of crimes, especially drug crimes, human trafficking; drug trafficking and transportation; activities of exiled reactionaries; terrorist crimes, transnational crimes and other types of law violations related to the two sides of the border.

Coordinate the implementation of professional activities, basic investigations of key and complex crime routes and areas; coordinate the investigation and verification of information about crimes.

Strengthen coordination and advise local authorities on each side to promote propaganda and mobilize people to effectively implement the Protocol on Vietnam-Laos border lines and border markers.

Agreement on Vietnam-Laos border and border gate management regulations; actively participate in the crime reporting movement.

The two sides will coordinate to tighten management, inspection and control of entry and exit, import and export through border gates and border gate areas; promptly detect and strictly handle violations.
