Honor is making the foldable smartphone market more exciting with the launch of Magic V5 - a super-thin foldable phone that is considered a formidable competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Z series. The appearance of Magic V5 is considered by experts as a strategic move to compete directly with Galaxy Z7 Series - expected to launch on July 9. Although Magic V5 is currently only distributed in China, Honor will likely bring this product to the international market later this year.

According to the specifications announced by the company, Magic V5 has a thickness of only 8.8 mm to 9 mm when folded - slightly varying depending on the color version. This is a notable improvement compared to the previous Magic V3 which had a thickness of 9.2 mm. Not only thinner, Magic V5 is also lighter, with a weight ranging from 217 to 222 grams, providing a more comfortable and convenient grip experience for users.

One of the most outstanding features of the Magic V5 is its outstanding battery capacity of over 6,000 mAh - one of the highest in the current foldable smartphone segment. In addition, users in China can also choose a version with up to 1 TB of internal memory, meeting the need for large storage and effective multitasking. This shows that Honor is constantly optimizing hardware to increase competitiveness with the big names in the industry.

According to data from IDC, although foldable smartphones will only account for less than 2% of the total global smartphone market in 2024, this is still a potential segment. Samsung is still leading with 34% market share, followed by Huawei with nearly 24%, and Honor is fourth with about 11%. With the appearance of Magic V5, the position of the big players in the rankings may change if Honor continues to expand and increase investment in this foldable phone line.

Honor is stepping up its game in the foldable smartphone race, aiming to beat Samsung, which is set to launch the seventh-generation Galaxy Z Fold next week. The Magic V5 is seen as a strategic move to put pressure on its Korean rival. The race to be the thinnest foldable smartphone is getting fiercer as companies try to create devices with large screens while still maintaining portability. Although the Galaxy Z Fold7 is rumored to be thinner than the previous generation, its ability to surpass the Magic V5's 8.8mm thickness is still questionable.

While Samsung has a solid foothold, Honor is still in the process of expanding its international market. Therefore, the Chinese phone company is looking to differentiate itself to attract users abroad. The Magic V5 not only impresses with its design, but is also part of a long-term strategy to enhance its brand image and dominate the high-end foldable phone segment.

In addition to hardware, Honor is also investing heavily in artificial intelligence – a potential direction. The company said it will invest $10 billion in the next five years to develop AI solutions, including the Yoyo smart assistant. This assistant not only supports device control, but also has the ability to interact with other AI models, serving many practical tasks such as booking a car through the application – demonstrating the effort to build a smart ecosystem to compete with Samsung and other giants.
