After the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the 10th grade exam scores in 2024 , Vu The Hoang Huy looked up and received the following impressive scores: Literature 8.75; Foreign language 10; Math 10; Total admission score to public grade 10 is 47.5; specialized subject 1 score is 8.
However, a rare thing happened when Huy's twin brother, Vu The Hoang Tien, also searched and got the exact same results.
The impressive scores of this pair of twins studying in class 9A4 at Hoang Mai Secondary School not only made many people admire with 4 perfect scores of 10 but also felt interesting and surprised because they were identical. "Even the scores are twins" - many people exclaimed when they knew about this coincidence.
Sharing with VietNamNet , Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, the mother of the twins, said she was really surprised by this coincidence.
“When the children came back from the exam, they had already calculated the possible score threshold, but the fact that all the scores were the same surprised the family. Even when looking up their scores, I thought maybe the search link was faulty... so every registration number looked up the same score. After that, the children asked me to try looking up another registration number. Only when I tried entering another registration number and got different scores did I believe that the two children had the same score,” said Ms. Thao.
Ms. Thao said that for the two subjects Math and Foreign Language, because they are multiple choice tests, achieving the same score will be easier if the children can answer all the questions. According to her, the same score in Literature is probably partly due to the fact that the children are all Math majors, so the way they present their ideas is mainly based on ideas, while the current grading system is based on a clear scale.
“I think it might be because my children are 'math majors' so they think and remember things based on ideas. Meanwhile, the grading of Literature exams is now also based on ideas, with a specific scoring scale,” said Ms. Thao.
What surprised her the most was that their specialized subject test scores were the same, both 8. The only difference between Huy and Tien's 10th grade entrance exam results was here, when the lookup system both announced "specialized subject score 1", but Huy's specialized subject 1 was actually Math, while Tien's specialized subject 1 was Computer Science. These specialized test scores were actually both Math tests, but the 2 exam questions were for 2 different specialized blocks.
Commenting on her twin sons, Ms. Thao said that both Huy and Tien are well-behaved and affectionate. Although they are boys, Huy and Tien often help their mother wash dishes, clean the house, hang clothes... "Since 2nd grade, the children have been familiar with these tasks to help their parents. Recently, their father 'taught' them the 'profession' of washing dishes", Ms. Thao said.
Hoang Huy is good at Math, quiet, loves reading books and playing with Lego since he was a child.
Hoang Tien is active and has a talent for sports , especially good at table tennis. For several years in a row, Tien was selected to compete and won first prize in table tennis at Hoang Mai district level.
Ms. Thao said that, in fact, since childhood, she and her husband did not have high expectations for their child and did not force him to take extra classes here or there.
“Where to study is mainly up to the children themselves, we are both willing and always create conditions. My husband and I just want our children to be healthy, happy, and not to put too much emphasis on studying. Since childhood, wherever the older brother studies, the younger brother will study, no matter the subject. When he was young, when he went to study at the Children's Cultural Palace, although Huy did not like it very much, he still went with Tien. That is why, now, Huy is not good at it but he can play table tennis,” said Ms. Thao.
Since childhood, Huy and Tien have often participated in math teams at all levels and brought home many awards. Ms. Thao jokingly said that Huy is the “king of second place” when he won second place in math competitions at the district level from grade 6 to grade 9. Tien also won third place at the district level in grades 6, 7 and 9.
In grade 9, Huy won second prize, Tien won third prize in the city-level math competition.
Ms. Ngo Thu My, the homeroom teacher and also the Literature teacher of class 9A4, said she felt very excited about the scores that Huy and Tien achieved.
“Both Huy and Tien are good students in the class. In class, Tien is often a little behind his brother but always tries hard. Therefore, this time, the two of them have the same score, I find it very interesting and happy for that lovely journey because in this race, Tien tried hard to 'catch up' with his brother", Ms. My said.
Apart from the 2 scores of 10 in Math and English, Ms. My was not surprised by the Literature score of 8.75 and the total score of 47.5. “I was not surprised because I believed in the learning ability of the two students. The result is completely worthy of the students' learning ability and efforts throughout their journey, not a stroke of luck,” Ms. My said.
The teacher felt a bit sorry that Huy's Literature score could have reached 9 or even higher.
Ms. My said that both students love Math. “Both brothers are very individualistic, good at studying and pursuing the same path in Math. Both brothers are often ranked at the top of the school, especially in the final round. Huy is often ranked number 1. Every time the names of students receiving awards from the school for their academic results are announced, both Huy and Tuan are usually there,” Ms. My said.
“Tien is not as good at Literature as Huy, but he is also a very quick learner and when he tries, he can also achieve a score of 8.5 in class relatively easily.”
Both Huy and Tien registered their first choice at a non-specialized public high school, Viet Duc High School. They also registered their wish for the specialized 10th grade at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the only difference being that Huy chose Math and Tien chose IT.
Before knowing the results of the 10th grade public exam in Hanoi, Huy also received the news that he was admitted to the specialized Math section of the Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted. "Although Tien has not been admitted to any specialized school, he is always very happy and confident that he will be admitted to the Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted," Ms. Thao shared.
Ms. Thao said that since they did not know their 10th grade entrance exam results in Hanoi, the two brothers asked their mother to let them take an extra IT course this summer.
With this score, Ms. Thao hopes that both her sons will fulfill their wish of being admitted and becoming specialized students of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
