Inside Out 2 - the sequel to the animated series exploring the colorful world of human emotions, stormed the Vietnamese box office over the weekend as predicted, earning nearly 20 billion VND after 3 peak days (according to The Box Office Vietnam).

In the international market, Inside Out 2 has become the film with the highest opening revenue in the first half of this year with 120 - 130 million USD.

Cartoons rule the summer months

Not only was the film successful in terms of revenue, it was also highly appreciated by many critics for its profound and touching content exploring the process of human maturity.

Inside Out 2 continues the story of Riley, now a teenager, about to enter high school. This is a transitional period for every person, filled with anxiety when facing a new world.

This is the second animated film to top the Vietnamese cinema market, after the Doraemon: Nobita and the Symphony of the Earth fever at the end of last month, showing the position of animated films shown in theaters during the summer.

Early next July, audiences will continue to welcome another animated blockbuster, Despicable Me 4 (Vietnamese title: Despicable Me 4 ).

This is also the brand that holds the Vietnamese box office record for the highest-grossing animated film in history ( Minions: The Rise of Gru - 200 billion VND, also released in the summer of 2022).

Coming in second place this week is Grandma's Fortune , the touching Thai family drama that topped the box office last week.

However, the film's revenue and screenings both decreased this weekend due to giving way to two outstanding films that just premiered, Inside Out 2 and Kowloon Walled City: Siege.

However, the film still earned more than 14 billion in the last three days of the weekend, surpassing the 53 billion VND revenue mark in the Vietnamese market.

Before landing in Vietnam, Gia Tai Cua Ngoai earned more than 117 billion VND in the Thai market and more than 222.4 billion VND worldwide, with the film's revenue mainly coming from Indonesia and Singapore (according to Thai Box Office data).

Coming in third place is the Hong Kong martial arts blockbuster - Kowloon Walled City: Siege , earning 8.5 billion VND after three days of the weekend, an impressive achievement when the movie screening was only half of Foreign Assets .

At home, Kowloon Walled City: Siege also topped the Hong Kong box office with a revenue of 21.1 million HKD (about 70 billion VND) after the first 5 days of showing.

The reason why Kowloon Walled City became a hit in Hong Kong and attracted many Vietnamese audiences was thanks to the crew's efforts to revive the Hong Kong martial arts film genre.

Surely Vietnamese audiences cannot help but feel nostalgic when seeing Sammo Hung, Raymond Lam, Louis Koo,... once again dominating the screen.

Kowloon Walled City is set in Hong Kong in the 1980s, a time period often seen in Hong Kong martial arts films during their heyday.

The film tells the story of Chan Lok-Kun (played by Raymond Lam), who accidentally gets caught up in a war between the two biggest gangs in the Kowloon slums . The bosses of the two factions are Long Kuen-Fung (played by Louis Koo) and Mr. Big (Sammo Hung).
