iPhone 17 will be Apple's thinnest device ever

In Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman's latest Power On report, Apple is said to be focusing on developing a significantly thinner smartphone for the iPhone 17 series due to launch in 2025.

A design concept for the future ultra-thin iPhone 17 model

Explaining Apple's new direction, Gurman said that over the years, Apple has seemingly moved away from making devices as thin and light as possible. This is because devices like the MacBook Pro and Apple Watch Ultra are built with thick designs to accommodate longer battery life, faster chips, and more features.

The iPad Pro M4 marks a return to a thinner design, though it still offers the same 10-hour battery life as its predecessor, and it's also very fast. This is due to features like the new M4 chip and OLED display, which shows that Apple has found a way to make its device thinner while still adding important new features.

Gurman believes that Apple will skip the new design in the upcoming iPhone 16 series and apply it to the iPhone 17 series. In addition, Apple also seems to want to apply a thinner design to future MacBook Pro and Apple Watch models.

Talking about the iPhone 16 series, which will be released this September, the report from Tom's Guide says that the product will not have too many changes in terms of design. However, one possible upgrade is that the new models are expected to have thinner bezels around the screen. This comes from a new technology called Border Reduction Structure (BRS) that will tightly pack the circuits together and reroute the wiring systems to allow for a thinner bottom bezel of the screen. The current limitation is that manufacturing these screens will be more difficult, so Apple is likely to apply the new technology only to the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models.
