On August 12, the media adviser in charge of the election campaign of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the country will react moderately to the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.

In an interview with the Washington Post , adviser Aliasghar Shafieian said: "Perhaps 40 years ago, some of Iran's actions were motivated by provocation and emotion," but now Tehran will respond in a "mature" way.

According to Mr. Shafieian, Tehran's response will not be the same as the hours-long attack last April, noting that the assassination of leader Haniyeh "was an intelligence-based mission" so "Iran's response will be of a similar nature and at a similar level."

An Iraqi member of Parliament with ties to Iran-backed militias in the country told the Washington Post that Tehran would respond with restraint to avoid escalating the conflict.

Another Lebanese source with ties to the Hezbollah movement said Iran was concerned that Israel and the US could attack its nuclear program to "neutralize Tehran's nuclear deterrent".

The statement was made amid warnings that Iran would launch an attack on Israel in the coming days in response to the assassination of leader Haniyeh in the capital Tehran at the end of July.

The international community is concerned that this potential attack risks pushing the entire Middle East region into full-scale conflict.

Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ai Bagheri Kani recently declared that Tehran "reserves the right to respond appropriately and deter" Israel to ensure regional stability, while Israel also affirmed its readiness to respond "in an unprecedented way".

Meanwhile, Reuters news agency reported on August 13 that US Ambassador to Turkey Jeff Flake said: "We ask all allies who have any relationship with Iran to convince them to de-escalate tensions, including Ankara."
