The film Village in the City is considered a sequel to Street in the Village , directed by Meritorious Artist Mai Hien. The film tells the story of the lives of two characters, Men (Doan Quoc Dam) and Hieu (Duy Hung), during a period of change in their homeland.

In part 2, Men and Hieu find themselves unemployed after their fish pond is taken away for a construction project. Men is invited by a relative to work as a loan shark. Hieu wants to go to the city to try his luck.

In the first episodes of the film, the film received many comments from the audience regarding Doan Quoc Dam's special voice. In the film, the character Men has grown hair, but his voice is hoarse as if he has a sore throat, making it difficult for the audience to hear the character's dialogue.

On movie forums on social networks, many viewers left their comments about Men's voice: "Why does this guy suddenly have such a hoarse and difficult to hear voice?", "Just listening to Dam's voice makes me feel short of breath", "Watching this makes me want to smash the TV, why doesn't the director let Men speak like in part 1"... are countless comments from viewers about Doan Quoc Dam's voice in the movie.

Sharing about his voice in the film, Doan Quoc Dam said he was not surprised by the audience's reaction to his voice in the film. With each role, he always looks for special details to impress the audience.

"When I was filming the movie My Family Suddenly Happy , next to the studio there was a neighbor who often drank alcohol, he often spoke with a hoarse, deep voice. At that time, I was preparing to act in the movie Village in the City so I decided to bring this voice to the character Men to create an impression," Doan Quoc Dam recounted.

Doan Quoc Dam further explained that the script of the movie Lang Trong Pho had a scene where Men's wife unfortunately had a miscarriage while pregnant with their second child, so he turned to alcohol to relieve his sadness and suffered a "near-death" illness. Therefore, Doan Quoc Dam relied on this situation and "forced" Men to have a hoarse voice after that illness.

According to the actor, he is not afraid of mixed reactions from public opinion but hopes that the audience will support the creations of artists.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, director Mai Hien said, the audience should just watch the movie to know how reasonable those details will be. Doan Quoc Dam's Men was built by him from the costumes, gait, demeanor... all very reasonable, very "rural".

"Doan Quoc Dam is a creative and inquisitive actor. With each role, I see him doing better than the previous one. If I were to change Dam's voice, I don't know of any reasonable reason to do so," said director Mai Hien.

Talking about Doan Quoc Dam's voice, actress Hoang Yen - who plays the water seller My Le in the movie Lang Trong Pho - said: "For me, it is a creative way to make the role more attractive. I think this detail must be good for the director to agree to give Dam's character more color.

The audience has nine out of ten opinions, some are very correct, but there are also comments that have not been carefully considered, hurting the people involved. Let's watch the whole movie before making comments, don't be too hasty."

Actor To Dung (who plays Dien in the movie How Beautiful Life Is ) also expressed his opinion about the creativity of artists through the character Men of Pho Trong Lang . He said, the audience likes to see what they want but actors like to do what they see. He has met many people whose voices are hoarse from alcohol, many who tremble and convulse from lack of alcohol. He admires Doan Quoc Dam because none of his roles are the same.

"When working, actors always look for new things to express, no one knows how the audience will receive it. If we overdo it, the audience will curse, "There is no such person in real life." If we see real life in a movie, they will say, "It's a movie, not real life, why act like that?" Challenging yourself and failing is normal," To Dung expressed.
