Difficult to clear Khanh Le pass during the day due to encountering many large rocks

Việt NamViệt Nam17/12/2024

Mr. Nguyen Phuong Nam, Deputy Director of Road Management Area 3 (Vietnam Road Administration), said that during the process of leveling the landslide section at Khanh Le Pass (on National Highway 27C through Son Thai commune, Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province), the construction unit discovered 5 more large rocks. These rocks are estimated to be about 300m3, blocking the road.

“These rocks are so large that they are interspersed with each other that the construction unit cannot bring in machinery to level and scoop out the mud and dirt. Therefore, the target of clearing the road by December 17 will be very difficult. The construction unit is drilling, chiseling, and using excavators to push the rocks out of the road surface. If the rocks are too hard to drill, the company will continue to use the blasting method,” said Mr. Nam.

Previously, on the morning of December 16, also at km43, the company discovered a rock weighing more than 400 tons blocking the pass road. By the evening of the same day, the company had successfully used 18kg of explosives to destroy this rock. On the morning of December 15, due to prolonged heavy rain, a serious landslide occurred on National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass, causing more than 50,000m3 of earth and rock to spill onto the road.

The landslide area is located right at the elbow bend of National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass.

According to statistics from Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company (road maintenance unit), there are 6 landslides on Khanh Le Pass. The company is trying to clear mud from the landslide point at km43 going up, trying to clear one-way traffic as soon as possible. At the beginning of the landslide point at km59, Lam Dong province's functional forces are also trying to clear and release the mud.

Previously, the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper reported that due to prolonged heavy rain, in the early morning of December 15, serious landslides occurred at many points on National Highway 27C, Khanh Le Pass. Thousands of cubic meters of earth and rock spilled onto the road, paralyzing traffic on the Nha Trang - Da Lat route.

The landslide also left about 50 passenger cars, trucks, and cars stuck between the landslide points. On the evening of December 15, Khanh Vinh district authorities brought nearly 60 people stuck at the km43 landslide site to safety.

Lam Dong province's functional forces also made efforts to clear rocks and soil on the road to successfully rescue, bringing 13 passenger cars, 1 car, 1 truck with nearly 300 people to Da Lat city.
