A German woman who broke into a dance performance at a temple in Bali (Indonesia) without permission has been taken to a psychiatric facility by Indonesian authorities, according to the South China Morning Post on May 26.
Police have accused tourist Darja Tuschinski of failing to pay for several hotels on the resort island, where there have been recent deportations of foreign tourists linked to inappropriate Hindu behavior in Bali.
"Foreign tourists are depressed because they don't have money to pay for their stay in Bali," said police spokesman Stefanus Satake Bayu.
Tourist Darja Tuschinski was taken to a psychiatric facility by authorities.
Images and footage that have gone viral on social media show Mr Tuschinski walking around dancers at the Saraswati temple in the town of Ubud on the island of Bali.
Her actions angered locals and netizens, with some visitors, mainly foreign tourists, expressing surprise while others shook their heads.
The 28-year-old even tried to enter the temple's inner sanctum before being turned away by a security guard.
Police said she argued with staff at the event and entered the outdoor venue, undressing and standing near dancers. It was not immediately clear whether the tourist had purchased a ticket to the show.
In Bali, one person's plastic trash can become another person's food.
Police said the temple had held a ritual to “purify” the sacred site and would not pursue any case against her. The tourist was later taken to a psychiatric hospital in the town of Bangli after refusing to board a flight home.
