The Third Danang Asian Film Festival Launched

(Fatherland) - On the morning of November 2, in Hanoi , the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) and the People's Committee of Da Nang City jointly organized the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two sides and introduced the Third Asian Film Festival - Da Nang, 2025.

Attending the event were Ms. Dinh Thi Mai - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky - Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts; Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - Chairman of VFDA, Vice Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts.

On behalf of Da Nang city, there were Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoi An, Deputy Director of Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports .

The cooperation agreement was signed between the People's Committee of Da Nang City and the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development to build the brand of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) to become a prestigious film event in Asia and the world; Contribute to the development of the Vietnamese film industry, build the image of Da Nang city as an ideal destination for Vietnamese and international filmmakers, audiences as well as domestic and foreign tourists; Promote the development of the cultural industry and international cooperation of Vietnamese cinema in general, Da Nang in particular; Contribute to the development of tourism, culture, socio-economics of Da Nang city and the whole country.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) said that DANAFF 2025 has many new features. Notably, the Film Festival will have a Korean Cinema Focus Program. Regarding the reason for choosing Korean cinema for this program, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan said that Korea has a developed cinema industry and is quite similar to Vietnam, there are many things for us to learn, including the DANAFF Organizing Committee.

"I think we need to learn from Korea's experience because this is a place with resounding successes, thanks to the synchronization not only in cinema but also in the cultural industry. Korea's national development strategy and policies on industry have things that are worth learning," said Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan.

The VFDA President also shared that she had attended the Busan Film Festival (Korea) from the very beginning. After nearly 30 years, the Busan Film Festival Organizing Committee has built a reputation and contributed greatly to the development of the Korean film industry. Previously, Korean cinema was concentrated in Seoul, but now large agencies, businesses, or their representatives are in Busan. When the success of the Film Festival spread, it contributed to the development of the Korean film industry, a launching pad for famous stars and filmmakers. If we do not waste time wandering around somewhere, we can learn many things from the Busan Film Festival, from Korean cinema, and apply them in practice. However, Ms. Lan also said that learning and applying the experiences of other countries must be flexible, creative, and suitable to the reality of Vietnam.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi expressed her hope that the signing of the cooperation agreement between VFDA and Da Nang City People's Committee will bring about many good results, aiming at the goal of making Da Nang City become a "City of events and festivals". The DANAFF events will be a bridge for domestic and foreign filmmakers, actors, and audiences to exchange, learn and cooperate on cinema; at the same time, it is a good opportunity for Da Nang City's cinema industry to meet, learn and exchange directly with leading international cinema experts. "We believe that with its great potential in natural resources and historical values, cultural heritage, traditional arts, festivals..., Da Nang City will create its own brand of cinema events, contributing to the building and development of the cinema industry, creating the common development of Vietnamese and regional cinema", Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee shared.

The 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival is scheduled to take place for 7 days, from June 29 to July 5, 2025 in Da Nang city.

Following the framework of the previous 2 DANAFFs, DANAFF III includes: Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony & Award Ceremony: Held at Ariyana International Convention Palace, Da Nang city; broadcast live on VTV and rebroadcast on Da Nang Radio - Television, An Ninh TV, local TV stations and digital platforms.

The competition film screening program includes 2 categories: Asian competition films, Vietnamese competition films. There are up to 7 non-competition films, including, in addition to the Korean Cinema Spotlight Program, there is also the Vietnamese Cinema Today Program; Selected Vietnamese Film Program on the theme of war; Panorama of Asian Cinema Program; Film screening program on the theme of Da Nang; Program screening some films of partners and famous guests of world cinema; Outdoor film screening program with selected films from Vietnam and abroad.

At the Film Festival, there will also be many professional, training and promotion activities, including seminars on Korean cinema, on discovering and nurturing international and Vietnamese cinema talents, Vietnam's war film imprints since Doi Moi, Vietnam and Asian Film Project Market...

The Organizing Committee opens registration for all filmmakers and film studios to submit films to participate in DANAFF III, starting from November 2, 2024./.
