Want to have a job soon, go to work quickly

On the afternoon of August 11, despite the heavy rain in Ho Chi Minh City, many parents and students still came to Saigon College of Tourism to complete admission procedures.

Among them, Thien Bao said that he had planned to study college from the beginning because the training time was only 2.5 years, shorter than university. Choosing the tourism guide major, Thien Bao set a goal to become an international tour guide and planned to soon take an international language certificate exam.

Not only the tour guide industry, the culinary arts industry also attracts candidates. Ms. Vo Thi Anh Tuyet (HCMC) came to the school to pay tuition for her nephew in An Giang to "finalize" studying this major. She shared that her nephew really likes this field and has researched it thoroughly, although he does not know how to cook yet, she believes that the school will train him.

Saigon College of Technology and Tourism has also welcomed hundreds of new students to enroll in the past few days. Nguyen Tan Hiep, a student at Nguyen Van Linh Secondary and High School (Khanh Hoa, formerly Ninh Thuan province), chose the field of automotive engineering technology. "I have been planning to study at college since grade 12, partly because I want to learn more practical skills, and partly because my family is poor, so I want to study quickly and go to work early to help my family. After graduating and having the opportunity to work, I will continue to transfer to university," Hiep added.

Similarly, Vo Thi Thuy Ai, a student at Vo Van Tan High School (Long An, former Tay Ninh province), scored more than 22 points in block C but did not apply for university admission but registered to study tourism and travel management, hoping to start working soon. "After graduating, I can both transfer and work, gain more experience and have a stable income," Thuy Ai confided.

Advantages that attract learners

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Lanh, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Saigon Polytechnic College, the unit has enrolled 70% of its target. In the past few days, hundreds of new students have come to the school to complete admission procedures.

According to Ms. Lanh, choosing to study at a college is for those who feel their abilities are suitable for this level of education. Many students are truly passionate about vocational training, wanting to have a career soon, graduate early to participate in the labor market, and improve their skills. Many students are even afraid that their school will run out of quotas, so they register very early at the colleges they find suitable, enrolling early to ensure they have a "place" to study at the college.

Master Ngo Thi Quynh Xuan, Principal of Saigon College of Tourism, said that every year, before the university entrance exam results are available, a number of students still come to register to study various majors at the school.

As a unit specializing in training in the field of tourism, restaurants, and hotels, according to Master Quynh Xuan, the subjects in this field cannot only be learned in theory but also require high practical skills. After only 2.5 years, you can participate in the labor market while this field is very short of human resources.

Master Lam Van Quan, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Education Association, said that most colleges now focus on training both knowledge and skills, so college graduates will have a good foundation. “You have many paths to take, the important thing is to develop your full potential, strengths and suit the conditions and circumstances,” said Master Quan.

3 solutions to increase college enrollment

According to Master Lam Van Quan, there are 3 solutions to increase enrollment in colleges:

Firstly, strengthen communication and social orientation to raise awareness of the role of vocational education.

Second, there needs to be a policy to balance and harmonize human resources; regulate and reasonably divide between levels of education, linked to the human resource needs of the labor market.

Third, colleges need to continuously innovate and improve training quality to ensure graduates have stable jobs and good incomes.
