Tourists love Arkhangelsk not only because it is the starting point for many Arctic expeditions, but also because of its typical northern beauty and unique cultural heritage. Among them is the largest open-air museum of wooden architecture in Russia - the Malye Korely Museum.
This is not just a simple wooden architecture and folk art museum, but a journey through space and time. Just step through this gate is a legendary atmosphere of the North.
On an area of 140 hectares are nearly 120 structures dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries, all of which are representative of Russian carpentry skills and wooden architecture. More than 60 years ago, when the number of wooden architectural heritage was greatly reduced due to the impact of time and human activities, the idea of this reserve was formed, and structures from all over the region were brought here.
Included in the list of especially valuable State cultural heritage, the Malye Korely Museum-Reserve is a unique combination of landscapes, monuments and folk art. The tranquility of nature, the warmth of wooden walls, the way of life of the Pomeranians and the joy of northern peasant festivals - it seems that all the life of Russians, especially northern ones, is reflected here.
In contrast to the atmosphere of the weekends, the museum grounds are quiet on weekdays. The wooden buildings blend in with the golden autumn colors of Russia, creating the feeling of being in another world , separate from the noisy pace of urban life.
Each house in this complex is unique and interesting in its own way. Here everyone can feel the spiritual connection between the world of yesterday and today, which is still preserved through the wooden architectural heritage imbued with the breath and beauty of the Russian North.
