Community extension with large timber material area development

QTO - On September 30, the National Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to organize a seminar on Community Agricultural Extension with the development of sustainable large-scale timber material areas for 120 delegates representing provincial-level state management units, members of community agricultural extension teams, forest owners, and forestry seedling production facilities in communes in the southern region of the province.

In recent times, community agricultural extension activities in the large timber material area of ​​Quang Tri province have promoted their role in supporting training, building demonstration models, providing technical guidance on large timber plantation, sustainable forest management and market connection.

Through supporting community agricultural extension teams, in the period of 2022-2024, the National Agricultural Extension Center has supported the construction of 6 nurseries with a capacity of 300,000 - 500,000 seedlings/year, with quality tissue-cultured hybrid acacia varieties, with traceability records; converting 75.5 hectares of forest from small-wood hybrid acacia to large-wood forest, planting nearly 50 hectares of large-wood forest with tissue-cultured hybrid acacia... Currently, the whole province has more than 120,000 hectares of planted forests, of which 60 hectares have been granted FSC certification, accounting for nearly 50% of the total FSC forest area nationwide.

At the workshop, delegates listened to presentations evaluating the results of implementing the community agricultural extension project in large timber raw material areas; the effectiveness of coordination between the community agricultural extension system in supplying high-quality tree varieties and developing raw material areas.

At the same time, focus on exchanging and discussing the advantages and difficulties in developing large timber material areas in the locality; propose strategic directions as well as solutions to continue promoting the role of community agricultural extension teams in large timber material areas in the province in the coming time.

Within the framework of the seminar, delegates visited and learned about the production of large-scale forestry seedlings at Long Thanh nursery, Ben Quan commune. This is a high-tech forestry seedling production facility with an area of ​​2.2 hectares, a production capacity of 3-3.5 million seedlings/year, and a revenue of 1.5 billion VND/year.
