The main reason for the street's suspension is that many small businesses stopped participating due to economic difficulties. This led to the investors suffering losses and requesting to terminate the event before the scheduled time. Meanwhile, cultural, artistic and street music performances could not operate stably while the responsible units were making arrangements during the local merger process.

Ninh Kieu walking street is part of the Nighttime Economic Development Project in Can Tho City (piloted in the old Ninh Kieu district). The project will be implemented in 2022 as a pilot project following the socialization model.
The walking street aims to create more entertainment activities, develop the night-time economy associated with tourism . At the same time, it contributes to creating jobs for local people, building a beautiful walking culture, and creating a highlight for the city center.

In recent times, the walking street has attracted a large number of tourists and locals; contributing to the formation of more destinations and unique events for the city’s tourism. However, due to the above difficulties, the walking street has stopped operating for the past 2 months.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Vice Chairman of Ninh Kieu Ward People's Committee, Can Tho City, said: "The locality is looking for ways to overcome difficulties so that Ninh Kieu Walking Street can operate again." Accordingly, Ninh Kieu Ward People's Committee will send a document to request the city's permission to allow Ninh Kieu Ward to organize the walking street based on the previous project.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu District (old) previously implemented this project. Therefore, when re-implementing it, it is necessary to re-evaluate and supplement it to suit the reality. On this basis, the locality will reorganize the stages of calling for investment, bidding or piloting the assignment of tasks.
It is expected that the locality will propose that the City People's Committee allow the ward to be proactive in some contents to maintain the walking street's activities such as: using the roadside and sidewalk for other purposes than traffic during the walking street's organization time frame; allowing to collect fees at night markets, ancient market houses, street vendors and special activities...

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Vice Chairman of Ninh Kieu Ward People's Committee, Can Tho City, proposed: "Recommend that the City People's Committee soon approve the project to build an embankment from Guest House No. 2 to Khai Luong canal so that the Ninh Kieu Wharf area can both ensure aesthetics and contribute to preventing flooding during high tides.
At the same time, there is a plan for a wharf to serve tourism, because the current wharfs in Ninh Kieu are degraded. The planning and investment of the Ninh Kieu Wharf complex needs to be synchronous, creating a highlight to attract tourists.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh also said that according to the current management hierarchy, Ninh Kieu ward does not have enough authority to manage tourist wharves, so the situation of soliciting and security and order in this area is still a difficult problem to completely resolve.

In Decision 509/QD-TTg approving the Tourism System Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045, Ninh Kieu Wharf is identified as one of 61 areas and points with potential to develop into a National Tourism Area. Therefore, Ninh Kieu Wharf area needs attention and development orientation commensurate with its potential, including the walking street model.
Hopefully, the walking street will soon be operational again, contributing to the development of Ben Ninh Kieu area in particular and the city's tourism in general.
