Unprecedented wave of additional admissions at medical and pharmaceutical universities

The 2025 university admission season witnessed a rare phenomenon when a series of universities training in the medical and pharmaceutical fields simultaneously announced additional admissions for many majors and hundreds of quotas.

Not only non-public schools, many top medical universities also participate in the additional admission race, opening up opportunities for candidates who were not admitted in the first round.

Standard scores have dropped sharply, but there are still many opportunities for additional admission.

In contrast to the engineering and technology sectors, the benchmark scores for the medical and pharmaceutical sectors have decreased this year. However, up to this point, many schools still have hundreds of additional recruitment quotas.

Hanoi Medical University, which has not needed to recruit additional students for many years, has surprised everyone by announcing an additional 80 students for the social work major. This is a new major opened this year. The minimum admission score is 17, with the combination A00 (math - physics - chemistry), B00 (math - chemistry - biology) and B08 (math - biology - English). Candidates must submit their applications directly to the school from now until 4:00 p.m. on September 12.

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy ( Hue University) also recruits 203 additional students for the majors of preventive medicine (45 students), nursing (65 students), public health (18 students), midwifery (35 students), and nutrition (40 students). The general minimum score is 17 points, applying both high school graduation exam scores and combined admission.

Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine announced the recruitment of 33 additional positions in the medical field, with a minimum score of 24.25 points. The school considers admission based on the groups B00, B08, B03 (math - biology - literature), A02 (math - biology - physics), X14 (math - biology - information technology). The deadline for submitting applications is 5:00 p.m. on September 10.

Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy has additional admission criteria based on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores with 130 quotas for three majors: preventive medicine (34 quotas, considering the combination of D00 and D08), nursing (86 quotas, considering the combination of D00 and D08), medical laboratory technology (10 quotas, considering the combination of B00 and A00) with the score for receiving applications from 17 to 19.5 points. The deadline for submitting applications is 5:00 p.m. on September 18.

Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy recruits 210 additional students in the fields of medicine (80 quotas), dentistry (10), pharmacy (40), nursing (60), medical laboratory technology (20). The majors consider the A00 and B00 combinations; the pharmacy major additionally considers the D07 combination. The score for receiving applications is from 20 - 25.33 (considering high school exam scores); 23.70 - 27.44 (academic transcripts).

Two additional methods of consideration include considering high school graduation exam scores and considering academic records. If considering academic records, candidates applying for medical, pharmaceutical, and dental majors must have excellent 12th grade academic performance or a graduation score of 8.0 or higher, along with one of the following certificates: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 65, DEFL B1 or higher.

For the medical laboratory technology and nursing majors, the requirement is a good grade 12 result or a graduation score of 6.5 or higher. Nursing majors consider candidates who have graduated from high school in the past three years, while the remaining majors only consider candidates who have graduated this year based on their academic records. Applications will be accepted from September 8th to 5pm on September 14th.

Vinh Medical University recruits 113 additional students for the Pharmacy major with a minimum score of 19 points (based on the high school graduation exam scores). Admission combinations include B00, A00, D07. The school accepts applications until 5:00 p.m. on September 19.

Private schools still have thousands of additional admission quotas.

In addition, many non-public schools also announced additional enrollment with hundreds of quotas for health science majors.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) announced to recruit 1,000 additional students for all majors according to two methods of high school transcripts: considering the average score of 3 subjects in grade 12 and considering the average score of the whole grade 12. The time to receive registration for admission is until 5:00 p.m. on September 10.

The additional admission scores for each major are from the announced first round benchmark scores. Specifically, the score for receiving additional admission applications is 21 points for the pharmaceutical major, 19 points for the nursing major and the medical laboratory technology major, and 18 points for the remaining majors. Candidates register for admission online on the school's website.

Van Lang University is accepting applications for additional admission to 61 training programs using 5 admission methods: considering high school graduation exam scores, academic records, Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test scores, combined admission with aptitude test, V-SAT. The deadline for receiving applications is September 10.

Admission requirements for health majors (with all methods except the method of considering high school graduation exam scores): candidates need to have good academic performance or a high school graduation exam score of 8.0 or higher if applying for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy; candidates need to have good academic performance or higher or a high school graduation exam score of 6.5 or higher if applying for nursing or medical laboratory technology.

Van Lang University recruits 61 additional majors

Hong Bang International University (HIU) announced that it will accept additional applications until September 10 for 39 regular training majors, including the health training group.

The school applies many admission methods: considering high school graduation exam scores, grade 12 transcripts, Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test, V-SAT exam or international certificates such as SAT, IB.

With the method of considering transcripts, candidates need to have a total average score of 18 points in grade 12 of three subjects in the group. With the Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test, the score to receive applications is from 600, and with the V-SAT exam, it is from 200.

The school notes the entrance threshold for medical, traditional medicine, and pharmacy majors: the academic results for the entire 12th grade are assessed as good (academic performance is ranked from excellent or higher) or the high school graduation score is from 8.0 or higher.

For nursing, midwifery, medical laboratory technology, rehabilitation technology, medical imaging technology: the academic results of the entire 12th grade are assessed as good (academic performance is ranked from good or higher), or the high school graduation score is from 6.5 or higher.

Hong Bang International University (HIU) accepts additional admission applications until September 10 for 39 majors.

Dong A University is recruiting 700 additional students for its training programs. The school will accept applications for additional admission until September 10.

The school considers admission methods: 2025 high school graduation exam scores, academic records, 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University capacity assessment test scores, direct admission methods and combined admission methods according to the school's admission plan.

For the 12th grade score method, admission requirements for some specific majors: medicine, pharmacy: good academic performance for the entire 12th grade year or high school graduation score of 8.0 or higher; 12th grade transcript must have a final score for chemistry or biology.

Nursing, midwifery, rehabilitation engineering, law, economic law: 12th grade academic performance ranked good or higher or high school graduation score of 6.5 or higher.

For the method of considering the results of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, the admission requirements for some majors: medicine and pharmacy with a total score of 800 points or higher and a 12th grade academic performance of good or higher; nursing, midwifery, and rehabilitation engineering with a total score of 720 points or higher and a 12th grade academic performance of good or higher.

Tokyo Medical University Vietnam recruits additional students for the majors of nursing, rehabilitation technology, medical laboratory technology, and medical imaging technology. The minimum score is 17 or higher.

Tan Tao University recruits additional medical majors with a minimum score of 20.5 points; nursing and medical laboratory technology majors with a minimum score of 17 points; other majors with a minimum score of 15 points or higher, with similar 12th grade academic requirements.
