Lao Cai approved the project "Pilot model on environmental protection and rural clean water supply in 2023"

Nghia Do is a commune in Bao Yen district (Lao Cai) with 13 villages and 1,182 households, 5,721 people with 05 ethnic groups (Kinh, Tay, Dao, Nung, Muong). Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee issued a Decision to recognize Nghia Do commune as a tourist destination in September 2021 and recognized Nghia Do commune as meeting new rural standards since 2015.... On October 11, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee approved Decision No. 2463/QD-UBND on implementing a pilot model on environmental protection and rural clean water supply in 2023 in Nghia Do.

The project "Model of environmental protection and clean water supply in rural areas in 2023" is being implemented with the goal of at least 15% of households in Nghia Do commune, Bao Yen district having sustainable access to clean water from centralized water supply works. Maintain and improve the quality of criterion No. 17 "Environment" and criterion No. 18 "Quality of living environment" according to the set of criteria for advanced new rural communes in Lao Cai province for the period 2022 - 2025.

At the same time, raise awareness and knowledge of ensuring rural environmental sanitation for cadres and people in villages implementing the project, helping them change their habits, behaviors and views on living in an environmentally friendly way, knowing how to protect and care for people's health while protecting the landscape and preserving traditional spaces. Attract people to actively participate in implementing the project in the area, voluntarily contribute funds and efforts and be responsible for protecting and maintaining the model in a sustainable manner.

The model of environmental protection and clean water supply in rural areas in Nghia Do, Bao Yen (Lao Cai) is a pilot model to help people have sustainable access to clean water from centralized water supply works.

In 2023, the Project will focus on implementing 04 contents: (1) Training to raise awareness and knowledge of environmental protection. (2) Support for upgrading water filtration equipment for 01 existing domestic water supply project in the commune. (3) Management, direction; inspection and supervision. (4) Organizing acceptance and handover of the project to the locality for management, operation and project summary.

The project's budget is nearly 800 million VND from the National Target Program on New Rural Development and the People's counterpart fund. After implementing the pilot model, it will summarize and draw experiences, creating a premise for step-by-step replication in the district and the whole Lao Cai province.

Lao Cai Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office presides over and coordinates with relevant agencies to organize the implementation of the model according to approved contents and budget and relevant legal regulations to ensure contribution to the completion of the common goal of the National Target Program on New Rural Area Construction in Lao Cai Province.
