(DN) - The impact of the world economy has so far caused the wood industry to suffer the largest reduction in orders and a very slow recovery. As a result, employment for workers is still facing many difficulties and many solutions are needed to support them. This is the content proposed by many grassroots trade union officials of the wood industry at the meeting organized by the Provincial Federation of Labor on August 11.

The province currently has over 50 wood production and processing enterprises, operating mainly in Bien Hoa City, Vinh Cuu District and Trang Bom District. Compared to other industries, the wood industry has been most heavily affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, having to reduce production and cut labor. At the meeting, the Trade Unions informed about the difficult situation of their units' orders, made efforts to care for their material lives and created spiritual activities to encourage workers. However, these efforts are only at a very small level compared to the needs of workers. Delegates proposed that, in addition to supporting workers, there is a great need for policies to help businesses overcome this difficult period, such as: tax reduction, preferential interest rate loans, etc.
The Trade Unions added that wood manufacturing enterprises are currently holding on to orders until the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter. It is expected that the situation will become more difficult in the last two months of the year. Some enterprises may let their workers have an early Lunar New Year holiday. Therefore, the Trade Unions recommend that trade unions at all levels and authorities have a plan to care for and support workers more during the 2024 Lunar New Year.
