This is a prestigious international badminton tournament held annually in Vietnam and is part of the World Badminton Federation's ranking system. This year, the tournament brings together 295 athletes from 20 countries and territories to compete.
Vietnam badminton icon Nguyen Tien Minh will participate in the Super 100 Vietnam Open 2025 tournament starting from September 9 at Nguyen Du Gymnasium, Ho Chi Minh City.
On the BWF homepage, Tien Minh’s name appears in the list of players participating in the men’s doubles qualifying round. To qualify for the main draw, Tien Minh will only need to win 1 match in this round.
The opponent of the former world No. 5 in the qualifying round of Vietnam Open 2025 has also been determined. Accordingly, Tien Minh will face Orijit Chaliha - the world No. 309 Indian tennis player.
Nguyen Tien Minh is the most successful tennis player in the history of Vietnam Open with 4 championships in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012. Last season, the tennis player born in 1983 stopped in the 2nd round after a 1-2 defeat against Samuel Lee (Malaysia).
Vietnam Open will be the third international tournament that Nguyen Tien Minh will participate in in 2025, after Singapore International Challenge (stopped in round 1 against Cheng Kai) and Ciputra Hanoi - Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge (won Nguyen Hai Dang in the opening match and lost to Samarveer in round 2).
Although he has been away from his peak for quite a while, the class of the player who was once in the world's top 5 still helps Tien Minh become a "rock" that is difficult for any young opponent.
Besides Nguyen Tien Minh, Vietnam Open 2025 also brings together the country's top badminton stars such as Le Duc Phat, Nguyen Hai Dang, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, Tran Dinh Manh, Than Van Anh, Vu Thi Trang (qualifying round) and especially Nguyen Thuy Linh - who is having a series of 3 consecutive seasons to the highest position in the women's singles event.
The total prize pool of the Vietnam Open 2025 is 110,000 USD, of which the men's and women's singles champions receive 8,250 USD; the doubles champions receive 8,690 USD.
