Double advantage of Vietnam team

The Vietnam team will return to the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers in October, when they meet Nepal in rounds 3 and 4 taking place in October.

According to the scheduled match schedule, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will face Nepal at home on October 9, then play the opponent again away on October 14.

However, due to the unrest in Nepal, the Nepal Football Federation has proposed to give the right to host the match on October 14 (which was supposed to be held in Nepal) to the Vietnamese team. Thus, the Vietnamese team will be able to play both matches on October 9 and October 14 at home.

VFF said: 'According to the published schedule, the first leg match between the two teams will be held at Binh Duong Stadium on October 9, 2025. Thus, the Vietnamese team will not have to travel to Nepal, but will play both matches in October right on Vietnamese territory. This is considered an advantage in terms of travel, physical strength and preparation for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team.

To prepare for these two important matches, the Vietnamese team is expected to gather in early October. Recently, the team also had time during the September 2025 training session to review the force, consolidate tactics and create cohesion for the whole team. After two matches in Group F, the Vietnamese team has 1 win and 1 loss, temporarily ranked second in the group. The two consecutive matches with Nepal will be important for the Vietnamese team in maintaining the hope of competing for a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup finals.

The Vietnamese team is scheduled to play Nepal on October 9 at Binh Duong Stadium. Five days later, Hoang Duc and his teammates will play Nepal at Thong Nhat Stadium. Both matches will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, giving southern audiences the opportunity to watch the Vietnamese team play live.

Previously, in March, the Vietnamese team played Laos in the opening match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers at Binh Duong Stadium. Thanks to the cheers of the home crowd, Mr. Kim and his team won 5-0.

Determined to compete for tickets to the Asian Cup

After two matches in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese team is second in the group with 3 points. Coach Kim's students beat Laos (5-0) and lost to Malaysia (0-4), with a goal difference of +1.

To qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup, Vietnam must beat Malaysia to win the group. Before thinking about a comeback against Malaysia at home in March 2026, Vietnam needs to win 9 full points against Nepal (2 matches in October) and Laos (November) to continue chasing.

Therefore, playing two matches against Nepal at home is a "gift" for coach Kim Sang-sik and his players. Not only does it save time on travel and adaptation, the Vietnamese team also has the support of home fans.

Under coach Kim Sang-sik, the national team has had a perfect home record since December 2024 (5 wins against Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Laos).
