Two new planets revealed, including "Death Earth"

(NLDO) - Circling a star 250 light years from Earth, two new planets have rekindled unanswered questions about our solar system.

According to Space.com , two new planets named TOI-1453 b and TOI-1453 c have been identified around TOI-1453, a star slightly smaller and cooler than our parent star.

This cluster of worlds is located in the constellation Draco, about 250 light-years from Earth.

The new planets were identified when a team led by Dr. Manu Stalport from the University of Liège (Belgium) analyzed data from NASA's "exoplanet hunter" TESS and the Galileo National Telescope of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (Spain).

TOI-1453 b is a super-Earth, a rocky planet like our Earth, but larger; while TOI-1453 c is a "mini-Neptune," a gas planet smaller than Neptune.

TOI-1453 b is notable because it is only slightly larger than Earth and appears to share many similarities, but it orbits too close to its parent star with a period equivalent to only 4.3 Earth days.

That turned it into a “death” version of the world we live in. This extreme cycle would subject the planet to such intense heat that its entire atmosphere could be stripped away.

Meanwhile, the extremely low density of TOI-1453 c suggests that this exoplanet may have a thick, hydrogen-rich or water-based atmosphere, making it an interesting candidate for exoplanet atmosphere studies.

Their parent star belongs to a binary star system, making the two planets all the more interesting because they would be subject to much more complex gravitational interactions than planets orbiting single stars.

Additionally, super-Earths and sub-Neptunes are two types of planets that are extremely common in our Milky Way galaxy, but absent in the Solar System.

Therefore, research on them is expected to help explain the long-standing puzzle: Why did the Solar System develop so differently from most star systems that humans have ever found?
