Select and honor outstanding, humane cinematic works

On the afternoon of July 1, in Da Nang , the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival 2024 (DANAFF II) held a press conference to introduce the opening of DANAFF II.

According to Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development - Director of DANAFF II, following the success of the first Da Nang Asian Film Festival, the People's Committee of Da Nang City continues to direct, the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development (VFDA) presides, coordinates with the Department of Culture and Sports , Department of Tourism and departments of Da Nang City, UNIMedia Company and the organizing units of DANAFF II from July 2-6, 2024 in Da Nang.

DANAFF II will select and honor outstanding cinematographic works, rich in humanity, with new discoveries and unique artistic expression; encourage talents, widely introduce to the public new cinematographic works, with high value in content and art from Vietnamese cinema, the Asia- Pacific region and selected films from world cinema.

The DANAFF II program takes place over 5 days with many outstanding events including: Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony - Award Ceremony broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV8 and VTV2), Da Nang Television, Security TV, National Assembly Television, provincial and municipal television stations across the country and digital platforms.

The total number of films participating in the categories and programs of DANAFF II is 63, of which: The Asian Film category has 13 films, the Vietnamese Film category has 10 films, the program "Today's Vietnamese Cinema" has 18 films, the program "Focus on French Cinema" has 8 films, the selected film program of director Dang Nhat Minh has 7 films, the film program about Da Nang has 4 films and the documentary program Varan has 3 films.

Film screenings at Le Do, CGV, Galaxy, Starlight cinemas and outdoor screenings at Lien Chieu District Administrative Park (July 3), Crescent Circle of Nhu Nguyet Street (July 4), Crescent Circle of Bach Dang Walking Street (July 5) with a total of 103 screenings.

Workshops and discussions such as Workshop "French cinema and its relationship with Vietnamese cinema" (taking place at 8:30 a.m. on July 3); Workshop "Sharing experiences in connecting coastal film festivals" (at 4:00 p.m. on July 3); Workshop "Director Dang Nhat Minh's creative style" (at 9:00 a.m. on July 4); Workshop "Film production cooperation - international experience and development solutions" (at 9:00 a.m. on July 5); Workshop "Nurturing talent"...

In particular, for the first time in Vietnam, DANAFF II will present the Film Achievement Award to an outstanding filmmaker. The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) is one of the foreign partners accompanying the Danang Asian Film Festival.

The opening and closing ceremonies - award ceremonies, performances will focus on introducing the culture and hospitality of Da Nang people as well as the characteristics of Asian cinema; promoting the spirit of "Vietnam integration" and promoting the image of a dynamic and bustling Vietnam through the image of Da Nang city - a bridge connecting Vietnam with Asia and the world.

The highlight of DANAFF II is the competition of films in two categories: "Asian In-Competition Films" and "Vietnamese In-Competition Films" with the Jury consisting of experts in the field of Vietnamese and international cinema.

According to Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Chi Cuong, DANAFF II is one of the outstanding cultural events in a series of attractive events that create a spreading influence, connecting tourism and cinema, turning potential and advantages to build Da Nang into an ideal destination for people and domestic and international tourists.

The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee hopes that DANAFF II will truly be a cultural and artistic bridge between countries in the Asia-Pacific region; a creative playground for young film talents, an opportunity for filmmakers and audiences to meet, share and build new relationships, contributing to promoting the development of the regional film industry and Da Nang city.

The organizers also informed that many famous artists will participate in DANAFF II such as People's Artist Le Khanh, People's Artist Nhu Quynh, People's Artist Lan Huong, Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan, director Ha Le Diem, director Pham Ngoc Lan, producer Nghiem Quynh Trang; actor Le Phong Vu, actor Nguyen Minh Khue...

Famous foreign artists and filmmakers participated in the Film Festival such as actress Jeon So Mi, director Warwick Thornton, producer Quan Cam Bang... In particular, the attraction of the films participating in the Da Nang Asian Film Festival this year has made many movie lovers from all over fly to Da Nang to watch films and participate in the activities of the Film Festival./.
