On June 23, at Cua Nhuong fishing port (Cam Nhuong commune, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh ), it was noted that the Cua Nhuong fishing port construction investment project has been completed and is in the process of completing related procedures to officially put into operation.

The channel is silted up, people complain it is difficult to enter the newly built fishing port.

Because Cua Nhuong fishing port has not officially come into operation, the atmosphere here is quite quiet. In the newly invested port area, there are only a few small capacity boats anchored to unload seafood to bring ashore.

Mr. Tran Kim Huong (47 years old, residing in Phuc Hai village, Cam Nhuong commune) said that his family invested in a 12CV boat to practice fishing for many years. When the Cua Nhuong fishing port construction project was invested in on a large scale and modernized, fishermen were very excited.

However, as soon as the fishing port was completed, it revealed shortcomings, causing difficulties for people when bringing boats to Cua Nhuong fishing port.

"My family goes to sea using a small boat, and when entering Cua Nhuong fishing port, we have to wait for the tide to rise. The big boats, after catching seafood, have to park far away and use small boats to transport the seafood to shore or to the port," said Mr. Huong.

According to Mr. Huong, the reason why boats have difficulty entering Cua Nhuong fishing port is because the national inland waterway route of Rao Cai - Gia Hoi River connecting to Cua Nhuong fishing port has been heavily silted up. Many large boats trying to enter the port have run aground, broken propellers... so they are forced to anchor far away, causing inconvenience to fishermen.

Mr. Nguyen Si Hung (52 years old, residing in Chua village, Cam Nhuong commune) has a 24CV boat specializing in fishing and deep-sea fishing in the sea about 10 nautical miles from shore. This morning, Mr. Hung's family boat reached the shore after a trip to the sea, but because the port entrance area was silted up, the boat was forced to dock about 500m from the port.

Mr. Hung shared that Cua Nhuong fishing port has been invested in modernly to facilitate fishermen in the process of fishing. However, due to the fact that the channel into the port is silted up, ships wanting to enter the port are forced to wait for the tide to rise, causing inconvenience to fishermen.

"The Cua Nhuong fishing port project is designed to receive ships with a capacity of up to 400 horsepower, but because the channel into the port is silted up, it is currently very difficult for small-capacity boats like ours to enter the port, so we do not know how effective the project will be in the long term," Mr. Hung wondered.

Waiting for dredging policy

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Ha Huy Thanh - Director of the Cua Nhuong Fishing Port Project Management Board (under the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Ha Tinh Province) - the project investor, informed that the Cua Nhuong Fishing Port Construction Investment Project has an investment capital of 280 billion VND from the compensation fund of Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Iron and Steel Company Limited.

The fishing port is built to accommodate 400CV ships, with a docking capacity of 100 ships/day, and the amount of aquatic products passing through the port is about 16,000 tons/year, meeting the requirements of a level II fishing port.

The project started in early 2024 and has now been completed. Currently, the investor is carrying out a number of related procedures to expect Cua Nhuong fishing port to come into operation in early July.

According to Mr. Thanh, the Cua Nhuong fishing port construction investment project has many items, including dredging the port access route and the water area in front of the port.

Accordingly, 392m of the channel from the port connecting to the national inland waterway of Rao Cai - Gia Hoi river and 3.8ha of water area in front of the port were dredged to ensure depth for large ships to enter and exit the port to load and unload goods.

"People reported having difficulty entering the port due to silting up the waterway on the national inland waterway route of Rao Cai - Gia Hoi river.

This waterway is now under the management of the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration (now the Maritime Administration, Inland Waterways - Ministry of Construction ) so it is not in the dredging area of the project" - Mr. Thanh said.

Mr. Thanh said that in order to prepare for the operation of Cua Nhuong fishing port, the unit has recently discussed with the Department of Maritime Affairs and Inland Waterways to seek opinions and agreements on technical solutions for the national inland waterway route of Rao Cai - Gia Hoi river to remove obstacles and soon propose a policy of dredging the channel to facilitate fishing boats entering Cua Nhuong fishing port.
