Here, although not close to family and children, the elderly share the same joy, comfort, and love.
This nursing home has been around for 32 years (established in 1992 and managed by the Rach Gia City Red Cross), providing many elderly, unfortunate, and lonely people in the locality with a place to rest, eat, live, and live happily and healthily until the end of their lives.
A "happy" support for many unfortunate lives
In early November 2024, the weather began to change when the winds blew every morning, making the air in the coastal area of Kien Giang strange. Although the weather was not cold, the staff at the nursing home had to be careful to take care of the elderly, to keep them healthy when the weather changed.
And with such kindness, even though they have no home or relatives nearby, the elderly here are not lonely. They are always talking and laughing, living happily.
Mr. Lam Van Chin (70 years old, in Vinh Thong ward, Rach Gia city) said that due to his family's financial difficulties, in 2023 he applied to live in this nursing home. Here, Mr. Chin always feels the taste of family life and the warmth of being taken care of with full meals. "Even though I don't live next to my children and relatives, there are many old friends here to keep me company when I'm sad, so I feel warm, happy, and somewhat comforted," Mr. Chin said happily.
“I also have a son. However, my son had a traffic accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury and can no longer work. The more difficult the economy is, the more my daughter-in-law has to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of three grandchildren who are growing up. How can I not be sad when I am away from my family, but when I come here, my children and grandchildren come to visit me from time to time, I am very happy” – sitting next to Mr. Chin, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mai (87 years old, in town 11, An Minh district) talks about her life but she still feels comforted when she lives under this common roof.
“I am old and was introduced to live here by everyone. It is clean here, there are people cleaning, I don’t have to do anything. I am very happy at the end of my life, but if I were to live alone outside, I wouldn’t know what to do,” said Ms. Luong Thi Lieu (78 years old, Vinh Thanh Van ward).
Rach Gia City Nursing Home staff take care of the elderly like family members
Each of them has their own circumstances, but when I ask about them, take care of them through every meal, every sleep, or even just ask them like a family member, they are very happy...
Ms. PHAN KIM TUOI (staff of Rach Gia City Nursing Home)
You guys are like family.
The Executive Committee of the Rach Gia City Red Cross and the nursing home management board have recently mobilized departments, branches, unions, charitable organizations and philanthropists to contribute to building a spacious and fully equipped nursing home to care for lonely elderly people with no one to rely on.
The nutrition regime at this nursing home is always guaranteed according to the State's regulations. The daily diet and activities aim to provide adequate nutrition and quality meals for the elderly. The unit must always take care in preparing food to ensure food safety and hygiene.
Ms. Phan Kim Tuoi - an employee at Rach Gia City Nursing Home - shared that here, Ms. Tuoi always considers the elderly as family members. Therefore, in addition to her daily work, she also talks, asks about, and encourages Mr. Chin, Mrs. Mai and many other elderly people here to feel secure and loved.
“Every job has its own joys, I feel happy when I take care of the uncles and aunts. Each uncle and aunt has their own circumstances, but when I ask about them, take care of them through every meal, sleep, or even ask them a question like a grandchild in the family, they are very happy…”, Ms. Tuoi shared more.
Rach Gia City Nursing Home is currently taking care of 20 lonely elderly people, including 3 elderly people with difficulty moving around. The elderly have health insurance cards, and when they are sick, they are taken care of by medical staff.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tre - Chairman of the Rach Gia City Red Cross - said that Rach Gia City Nursing Home has recently become a "warm home" for lonely elderly people with no place to rely on in the locality.
The nursing home’s activities also receive the attention and support of kind-hearted people in the community. Many philanthropists often provide material support so that the unit can have enough conditions to care for the elderly to live happily and warmly in this common family.
“The cost of raising our elderly depends on the State’s support system and contributions from benefactors. In addition, the unit also coordinates with the health department to organize regular health check-ups every week to ensure the health of the elderly here,” Mr. Tre emphasized.
