On September 5, the MoMo Piggy Bank Community and VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) held a ceremony to donate a well and water pump system to Mu Sang Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Phong Tho District, Lai Chau Province. The 233 million VND donation raised through the MoMo Piggy Bank Community helps VCF's Clean Water program provide clean water for the daily life of ethnic minority children in difficult circumstances.

Phong Tho is a mountainous border district located in the North of Lai Chau province with 96% of the population being ethnic minorities. The remote location creates countless difficulties and challenges in accessing clean water for the people of Phong Tho district. Clean water is the foundation for health and helps limit the spread of diseases, especially for children from families in rural areas. Therefore, bringing clean water to ethnic minority communities like Phong Tho district is extremely necessary.

With support from the MoMo Piggy Bank Community and Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H'Hen Nie, VCF's Clean Water program installed a well and a pumping system to provide clean water to students and teachers at Mu Sang Primary Boarding School, Phong Tho District. The system maintenance costs as well as the replacement costs of system components are warranted for 1 year.

For the first time, 500 students and 40 teachers of Mu Sang Primary Boarding School no longer have to use rainwater from unsanitary tanks. Teachers and students can now use clean water at school without having to wade and climb more than 1.5km to get water from the nearest stream. This will help reduce waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, E. coli infection and many other diseases. Thereby, improving the health status and access to education for poor ethnic minority children in the mountainous province of Lai Chau.
