“Godmother” - a solid support for orphans

Implementing the "Godmother" Program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union with humanistic meaning, both to soothe the pain and to become a solid support for orphans to overcome difficult circumstances and move forward on the future path ahead, the Provincial Women's Union has deployed to all levels of Women's Unions to participate in supporting the care, nurturing, and adoption of orphans. With love, the Program has become a "bridge", a support, helping children have more confidence to rise up in life.

Designer Thoa Tran - Director of T&T Fashion Design Training Academy donated 400 new shirts, launching a program to make new shirts for orphans in the province.

Realizing the importance and significance of the “Godmother” Program, the Provincial Women’s Union has directed and guided the Union’s branches, cadres, members and women in the province to actively participate and respond to many practical activities to care for and support orphans. With understanding and sharing, the “Godmothers” have opened their arms of love, becoming a support for orphans to have more strength and walk firmly on the road ahead.

The special feature of the Program is that it not only connects organizations and individuals to mobilize resources to support orphans, but also finds godmothers for the children to directly take care of their health, compensate for their spirit, and provide financial support for them until they turn 18 with flexible forms of support such as living expenses, bicycles, desks, computers, books, clothes, school supplies, etc. In addition, the Women's Union at all levels supports them with knowledge and skills; health and psychological counseling; helps them connect with vocational training and job referrals after they graduate from high school, helping them stabilize their lives. The support level ranges from 500,000 - 1,000,000 VND/month until the children turn 18, and gives them savings books worth from 5 million - 70 million VND/book/child.

The "Godmother" program has been spreading widely, promoting the good traditional values ​​of humanity and mutual love of the Vietnamese people. In addition to material support, the Association at all levels in the area also takes care of and encourages children mentally to overcome their inferiority complex, ease the pain of losing loved ones, and become more sociable and open with those around them. 100% of the godmothers directly signed a commitment to coordinate with representatives of the family, residential area, and school where their children study, to do a good job of caring for and supporting orphans; mothers are propagandized and equipped with knowledge about food safety, nutritional health care; prevention of sexual abuse, prevention of trafficking of women and children and knowledge about children's psychology and physiology... to guide their children in studying, personal activities, and self-defense skills; grasp the thoughts and aspirations of their children to promptly reflect them to the Association at all levels. To date, the province has 1,447 children in difficult circumstances, of which 405 children in especially difficult circumstances are sponsored by the Women's Union at all levels. The total budget to support the children until they turn 18 is nearly 5 billion VND.

The program has many humanistic meanings, clearly demonstrating the good qualities, kindness and tolerance of Vietnamese women as well as the spirit and responsibility of cadres and members in participating in solving social problems, contributing to accompanying the Party Committees and authorities to care for, nurture and look after orphans so that no one is left behind, helping them have a brighter future. As a "bridge", the Women's Union at all levels in the province continues to promote communication, mobilize cooperation and contributions with agencies, organizations, individuals, businesses and philanthropists to have more orphans sponsored, contributing to spreading and multiplying the good humanistic values ​​from the Program.

In the coming time, the Women's Union at all levels in the province will continue to coordinate and mobilize resources and connect to support the children more. At the same time, promptly commend and honor outstanding collectives and individuals who participate and implement the "Godmother" Program well, creating a widespread influence in the community, bringing the children love, care and attention of "godmothers", creating a solid foundation for orphans, helping them overcome difficulties, step forward strongly to become good children, good students, and useful people for society.
