(NLDO) - The US Open had a dramatic opening as the iconic Djokovic fought off injury to continue, Medvedev declined and left the tournament in tears, with an unsightly image.

At the age of 38, Djokovic still showed his mettle to overcome the young Vietnamese-American talent Learner Tien 6-1, 7-6, 6-2. However, a serious blister on his toe made the audience worry about the Serbian tennis player's journey to conquer the last Grand Slam of the year.

Djokovic also admitted that he had difficulty playing for long periods of time. However, Nole has a rather lucky schedule with an extra day off between rounds and he will have time to recover.

Former 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev once again disappointed the audience when he was eliminated in the first round. This happened at two other Grand Slam tournaments, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
