Carlos Alcaraz once again proved his position when he defeated Jannik Sinner 3-1 (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4) in the final of the 2025 US Open, winning the sixth Grand Slam of his career in the early morning of September 8.
This victory also helped Alcaraz equal Nadal's record (with 6 Grand Slams) before the age of 23. The achievement is only behind Bjorn Borg's lead with 7 titles, surpassing Pete Sampras and Mats Wilander with 5 and 4 titles respectively.
The third consecutive Grand Slam final of the year between Alcaraz and Sinner took place in 2 hours and 42 minutes with a convincing performance from the Spanish player.
Alcaraz started well, breaking two games early to win the opening set 6-2 in 37 minutes.
In the second set, Sinner fought back strongly, got an important break and won 6-3, becoming the first player to take a set from Alcaraz at this year's tournament. But that was all the Italian could do.
In the third set, Alcaraz regained control with a varied play. An impromptu smash that bounced the ball across the court beyond Sinner's reach not only made the crowd explode but also gave the Spaniard confidence. As a result, Alcaraz quickly won the third set 6-1 to lead 2-1.
In the deciding set, fans witnessed Sinner's efforts to catch up, but Alcaraz maintained a good attacking tempo and broke the decisive game at the end of the set, closing out the 6-4 victory.
With that, Alcaraz ended the tournament by ending Sinner's 27-match winning streak on the hard courts of the Grand Slam.
A second US Open title not only confirms Alcaraz's position as number one in the ATP rankings in the new era.
It also marked a clear turning point in the transition of power in men's tennis. This was also Alcaraz's return to the number one position in tennis after two years.
