Meta and the revolution in smart wearable technology

Meta is expected to officially launch its futuristic-style smart glasses next month, promising to create a big push in the smart wearable device market.

Although it is still unclear which specific user group this product is aimed at, technology news sites say the glasses - codenamed "Celeste" - will be integrated with many impressive features such as weather updates, real-time translation and hand gesture control via a wristband.

The product is part of Meta's ambitious “Hypernova” project.

The highlight of this model of glasses is the super small monocular HUD - a transparent screen that appears in front of one eye, allowing the necessary information to be displayed immediately.

Along with the glasses, Meta also developed a wristband that uses surface electromyography (sEMG) technology, which can read small nerve signals from the hand muscles, allowing users to control the glasses with finger gestures - completely without touching the phone or buttons.

Leaked information suggests the glasses will support timekeeping, weather updates, notifications, turn-by-turn navigation, and display subtitles and live translations while listening to others speak.

Additionally, responses from Meta AI will be displayed as text instead of audio.

Users can also use the glasses to align and preview shots – opening up the possibility of replacing some smartphone features.

Some industry sources revealed that the glasses will weigh around 70 grams – slightly heavier than the Ray-Ban Meta model launched in 2023 (about 50 grams), due to the integration of the HUD screen. However, this increase is said to be insignificant and unlikely to cause discomfort when used.

Regarding the selling price, Meta has made adjustments compared to the original plan. In April, many sources said that the product could be sold for over 1,000 USD, maybe even up to 1,400 USD.

However, according to Bloomberg tech journalist Mark Gurman, Meta has decided to lower the price to around $800 – sacrificing some profit to expand its user base. However, this price can increase if users choose upgrade options such as prescription lenses or special frame designs.

Design renders leaked in July from a public Meta server revealed product images with a modern, sophisticated look, including one version engraved with “Meta Celeste” — confirming the official name of the glasses.

Meta is said to have high expectations for this launch. Internal reports say that employees have been working all weekend to meet the deadline.

Meta is expected to officially announce the glasses at the Meta Connect 2025 conference on September 17, and start taking pre-orders for October deliveries - if there are no delays./.
