Independence Day Gift: Sharing joy, sharing love

On September 1, throughout the neighborhoods and wards in Ho Chi Minh City, people were excited to receive gifts to celebrate National Day. The gifts were handed to the people as a warm wish and message: "Let's celebrate Independence Day together in common joy, no one is left behind."

At the gift distribution point of Nguyen Thi Dinh Primary School (Tan Thuan Ward), Mr. Nguyen Van Thai (80 years old) walked slowly to receive the gift himself. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Thu and her younger brother helped her father step by step into the school gate. Seeing that he had difficulty walking, police officers and militia quickly came to help.

Sitting next to her father, Mrs. Kim Thu was moved: “My father is hard of hearing and has difficulty walking, but he said he had to receive the gift himself to be happy. My extended family has 13 people, and received 1.3 million VND, and the most precious thing is my father's joy. Seeing him happy, our children and grandchildren are also excited.”

With a population of more than 148,000 people, the gift distribution in Tan Thuan Ward is being implemented flexibly. In addition to households that have received gifts directly through the VNeID application, the ward will organize concentrated distribution at schools until September 2. For households that are not currently in Ho Chi Minh City, the ward will continue to distribute gifts at the ward People's Committee headquarters until September 15.

To achieve the best results, Tan Son Nhat ward established 33 working groups, divided equally among 33 neighborhoods to give gifts.

According to Vice Chairman of Tan Son Nhat Ward People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Danh, with the budget allocated to the ward of more than 5.7 billion VND, the ward has carefully prepared to ensure that the gift giving in the area takes place smoothly and safely. The ward People's Committee also organized working groups to go to the homes of disadvantaged households, especially the elderly living alone, those with health conditions, and those with difficulty traveling, to directly give special gifts to the people.

In Thanh My Tay Ward, 3 gift distribution points were set up for people to come and receive the gifts in cash. For those who cannot come, the ward will arrange for people to receive them at the People's Committee headquarters from September 3 to 12.

Among the line of people receiving gifts, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien (Ward 23, Thanh My Tay Ward) took his wife to the distribution point at Cuu Long Secondary School. The procedure was quick because the family only has 3 members.

Mr. Hien shared: “I am a freelancer, my job is unstable, the burden of making a living is always present. When I heard that the State gave gifts to celebrate the holidays, my wife and I were very happy. This amount of money is a very precious care for us.”

For many poor working households, migrant workers, street vendors..., 100,000 VND not only helps to have a more complete meal, but also an extra package of cakes and a kilo of fruit to burn incense on the ancestral altar. Beyond the material value, what they deeply feel is the care and sharing of the Party, State and local authorities.
