On November 23, Dr. Bui Quoc Cuong, Men's Health Center, said that Mr. L. came to the center for a checkup because he had been waiting for a child for the past 3 years but had not had any results.
Taking his medical history, Mr. L. said that he had had his semen tested many times in many different places, but the results were negative. At the same time, he also tried many methods from Western medicine to Eastern medicine, and even folk remedies such as wine sold online... Up to now, his family still has no good news. Part of the family kept urging, unintentionally putting pressure on the couple.
Married for 3 years, Mr. L. and his wife wish for a child every day.
Semen analysis results show no sperm.
After taking a medical history and performing a clinical examination, the doctor noted some of Mr. L's characteristics, such as a high-pitched voice, not as deep as other men, a very sparse beard, no pubic hair, a penis that had not reached the average male size, and very small testicles on both sides, estimated to be only the size of a quail egg.
The doctor suspected that Mr. L. had signs of pre-puberty, a condition caused by pituitary insufficiency. The pituitary gland is an endocrine organ, about the size of a pea. In men, the pituitary gland plays a role in sperm production.
After performing tests and imaging. The results of endocrine tests related to sperm production showed that Mr. L. had very low LH, FSH, Testosterone, Estradiol indexes, even 0. The semen analysis results showed no sperm, the volume of both testicles was only 4 ml. At the same time, through the brain MRI results, it was shown that Mr. L.'s pituitary gland was very small compared to normal people.
After examination, Mr. L. was diagnosed with pituitary failure leading to hypogonadism, preventing him from going through puberty normally and having children. When this problem occurs, doctors will prescribe a treatment regimen using injectable hormone replacement, which can last from 6 to 24 months.

Need the right treatment regimen
Doctor Bui Quoc Cuong said that, up to now, there are many causes of male infertility, some common causes can be listed as hypogonadism due to pituitary failure, testicular infection, testicular surgery, varicocele, mumps, environmental toxins - pesticides, fungicides, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption... Depending on each cause of the disease, there will be a corresponding treatment regimen.
After a period of treatment and monitoring, Mr. L.'s hormones returned to normal and stable levels. His voice became deeper, his beard grew more, and his testicles became larger. In particular, the semen analysis results showed that there were a few mobile, normally shaped sperm. With the current results, Mr. L. can have children through assisted reproduction. Or he can continue treatment if he wants to have children naturally.
According to Dr. Cuong, male infertility is a worrying issue and requires special attention from both the health system and the social community. In particular, understanding the causes and finding appropriate solutions based on each specific case can help many men overcome infertility and fulfill their role as fathers.
