Faced with this situation, Vietnam Television Center in Ho Chi Minh City (VTV9) organized a discussion "Poor quality helmets - Fake shields, real danger", gathering experts, managers and businesses to analyze the causes, consequences and propose solutions.
According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, the use of substandard helmets is contributing to increased casualties. Although helmets are required by law, poor quality products are still flooding the streets and e-commerce platforms. Some people still choose cheap, fashionable helmets to “cope”, creating conditions for counterfeit and fake goods to exist.
The consequences of these “fake shields” are extremely serious, not only causing damage to health and life but also a burden of medical costs. At the seminar, simulation experiments showed that fake helmets shattered upon impact, with almost zero protection.
Mr. Mai Van Thuan, General Director of Asia International Group, said that the minimum cost to produce a helmet that meets QCVN 02 standards is about 75,000 VND, with quality materials from the shell, foam to the strap. Therefore, products that cost only 30,000 - 40,000 VND certainly cannot guarantee safety. In addition to threatening lives, poor quality helmets also erode consumer confidence and create an unhealthy competitive environment.
To address the above situation, the guests proposed a comprehensive solution roadmap. For the e-commerce market, where more than 5 million MBH were sold in the past year, it is necessary to tighten the management role of the platforms, build a set of criteria or authentication labels for qualified products. At the same time, the Market Management force needs to strengthen inspection, handling and publication of the list of violating establishments to increase deterrence.
However, the key solution still lies in raising consumer awareness. It is necessary to equip people with knowledge to recognize standard MBH through simple signs such as CR stamps, clear labels and encourage the application of QR code technology to trace the origin.
Ms. Tran Thanh Minh, Deputy Director of Vietnam Television Center in Ho Chi Minh City (VTV9) affirmed: “To thoroughly solve this problem, close cooperation is needed between management agencies, businesses and people. As a national media agency, VTV9 wishes to act as a bridge, spreading the message "Real helmet on head, safety on the road" through specific actions, contributing to building a culture of safe traffic".
