According to research data, the model of intercropping coffee with durian can bring profits higher than pure planting from 131 - 232%; the remaining intercropping types give profits increased from 35 - 57%. Intercropping not only diversifies products, increases value on the same unit area but also helps limit risks from market fluctuations.
In addition to economic benefits, experts also pointed out the accompanying challenges, especially the competition for nutrients and water resources between crops and the risk of cross-spreading pests and diseases. To overcome this, specific technical solutions are also proposed such as: arranging reasonable planting density and spacing; selecting suitable, high-yielding crop varieties such as TR4, TR9 coffee, Ri6, Dona durian; applying balanced fertilization and watering processes for the entire crop system...
